A patient visited us recently complaining that he was suffering from bad breath and this was beginning to affect his confidence. On examination it was found that he had bleeding, inflamed gums which combined with him being a smoker were the causes of his bad breath. We placed the patient on a course of dental hygeine with our resident hygeinist. Aswell as removing the bacteria from his mouth she went through cleaning techniques and smoking cessation advice. He now flosses regularly and has cut down on his smoking which means now he has healthy gums giving him a nice fresh breath.
