Friday, January 30th, 2015

1050560_blogWe understand that people like to be glamorous in Leeds and we offer perfect dental veneers to create stunning smiles. With our veneers, your smile will look fabulous and you’ll feel like a VIP every day.

About veneers

Veneers are a very popular treatment with celebrities, but you don’t need to feature in a Hollywood blockbuster or star in a soap to enjoy a beautiful smile. Our veneers are affordable and accessible and they can guarantee you a red carpet worthy look right here in the centre of Leeds.

Veneers are wafer-thin shells, which are usually made from porcelain; they are placed on top of the natural teeth. We offer a range of shades to suit your preferences and every veneer is custom-designed.

We recommend veneers for common cosmetic flaws, including chipped teeth, worn and uneven tooth edges and spaces between the teeth; veneers can also be used as part of a smile makeover to create a dream new smile.

What happens when you have veneers?

Veneer treatment usually requires 2 treatment sessions. The first session is designed to prepare the teeth and create the impressions, which are sent away to provide a template for the new veneers. Preparing the teeth is nothing to worry about- we simply etch away a very fine layer of the tooth surface to make space for your new veneers. The second session is the exciting part; this is when we fit your new veneers and you get to see your incredible new smile! Veneers are fixed onto the teeth using strong adhesive.

If you like the sound of veneers and you’d like to find out more about treatment at City Dental Leeds, don’t hesitate to give us a call today! Now is the perfect time to start thinking about glamorous new you!

How Do Our CT Scanning Machines Help Us Treat Patients?

Thursday, January 29th, 2015

429735_blogAt City Dental Leeds, we pride ourselves on providing clients with the latest technology and we are very proud to have an advanced CT scanner on-site. We accept referrals from other clinics and use our scanner to provide accurate and effective care for patients in Leeds and beyond.

About CT scans

CT (computerised tomography) scans are used commonly in medicine and they are becoming increasingly commonplace in modern dentistry. Scanners produce incredibly detailed images of the inside of the body and can be instrumental in the diagnosis, treatment and management of a diverse range of health conditions.

We use our CT scanner primarily for implant treatment. The scan images allow us to locate the best sites for implant placement with pin-point accuracy and guide us during the procedure to fit the implant. We also sometimes use the scanner during the consultation stage to assess whether or not patients are suitable candidates for treatment; we are able to judge the thickness and strength of the bone tissue and ascertain whether or not an implant could be supported.

We are also able to use CT scan images to show patients how treatment works and what it involves; seeing detailed pictures enables them to gain a greater understanding of what goes on during the process and how implants are able to act as tooth replacements.

Preparing for a CT scan

If you are having a CT scan, your dentist will explain exactly what will happen and they will be happy to answer any questions. There’s nothing to worry about and the can is not painful in any way; we simply ask you to lie as still as possible for around 15 minutes. Before a scan, we ask you to remove any jewellery from the face, ears and neck and any loose attachments, such as scarves and glasses. After the scan, the images will be available to our dentists and they can talk you through the treatment process.

2977218_blogIf you’re searching for a fixed brace with a modern spin, look no further than lingual braces. These braces work in a similar way to traditional fixed braces, but they sit behind the teeth, making them a completely invisible alternative to conventional braces.

Lingual braces offer those who are conscious of their appearance or image a means of getting the smile they dream of without minimal anxiety or concern about how the treatment process will impact their day to day life and their confidence.

STb Social 6 braces

How long does treatment?

STb Social 6 braces work to straighten the teeth in record time and treatment times are typically between 6 and 16 weeks.

How can I find out if I’m a good match for treatment?

If you are interested in lingual braces or any other form of orthodontic treatment, we advise organising a consultation. Our expert dentists will carry out some basic tests to evaluate your needs and they can then discuss treatment possibilities with you. STb Social 6 is usually a good option for patients who only have minor needs; if you are looking for a discreet treatment for more complex issues, we will be happy to go through other options with you in order to achieve the perfect new smile.

Secret Straightening No one Will Know About

Sunday, January 25th, 2015

Beautiful young lady smilingIf you dream of achieving a straight smile in secret, we recommend Invisalign. This clear aligner system produces beautiful results with minimal impact on your appearance during the treatment process, so you can continue as normal with nobody even being aware that you’re wearing braces.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a modern take on orthodontic treatment, which uses a series of removable, custom-made appliances to achieve a straight smile. Invisalign aligners slide easily onto the teeth and they are made from clear plastic, so they are virtually invisible. Every patient receives a set of aligners and each one is slightly different; they work in a set order to reposition the teeth.

Invisalign provides a solution for a wide range of mild and moderate orthodontic issues, from crowding to spacing and it is an excellent option for teens and adults who wish to remain incognito during the treatment phase.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign aligners generate forces, which move the teeth to produce beautiful aesthetics. There is a set sequence and each aligner is worn for 2 weeks. The aligners are removable and they should be taken out when you plan to eat, clean your teeth or drink; ideally, they should be in place for at least 22 hours per day.

The benefits

The most obvious benefit for most people is the invisibility of the braces; you can go about life as normal with no concern about how you look or how others will perceive you. Removable braces also make maintaining good oral hygiene easier and you can eat and drink as normal.

About restorative dentistry

Restorative dentistry is the field of dentistry, which deals with running repairs to the teeth; this kind of treatment aims to restore damaged or decayed teeth to improve function. Often, restorative treatment has benefits for the aesthetic of the smile, as well as making the tooth stronger, which is advantageous for eating and also decreases the risk of injury in the future.

Our treatments

We offer a comprehensive range of treatments, including white fillings, veneers, crowns and dental bridges. We can treat any issue, from a small cavity, to a set of broken and worn teeth.

Crowns

Crowns are also known as caps; they sit on top of your natural tooth to make it stronger. Crowns are custom-made for a perfect fit and they are generally recommended when a tooth is decayed or damaged as a result of injury or trauma. Porcelain crowns are very popular because they match the tooth shade for a seamless, natural looking finish.

Dental bridges

Bridges are a popular tooth replacement treatment, which provide rapid relief for patients with missing teeth. Bridges are custom-made and they can be made using ceramics or metals. A traditional fixed bridge comprises of a false tooth with a crown on either side. What Happens If You Don’t Replace Missing Teeth?

Thursday, January 22nd, 2015

3177025_blogAt City Dental Leeds promoting good oral health lies at the centre of what we do and we aim to encourage every client to take steps to reduce their risk of oral disease and increase their chances of enjoying a healthy, attractive smile. We actually encourage patients with missing teeth to explore tooth replacement treatment and we offer the latest techniques to restore oral function and create natural looking smiles.

What happens if missing teeth are not replaced?

Missing teeth can contribute to a host of problems, from an increased risk of oral diseases and issues with speech, to difficulty eating and cleaning the teeth. If missing teeth are not replaced, this can have significant effects on diet and nutrition, oral health, clarity of speech and facial aesthetics; there is also a risk of the remaining teeth slipping out of position.

By replacing lost teeth, you can enjoy enhanced oral function with clearer speech and the ability to chew and break down a wider range of foods, a more attractive smile and increased confidence and a lower risk of oral health problems.

How can we help?

We offer a range of tooth replacement treatments, including bridges, dentures and dental implants. There is a great deal of interest surrounding implant treatment because this is a relatively new concept in dentistry.

Dental implants are currently the closest match to a natural tooth and they provide excellent natural looking aesthetics in addition to stability, durability and amazing levels of functionality. Essentially, with implants, you can do everything you used to do with a full set of healthy and strong teeth. Implants are built to last many years and they offer a solution for most patients with missing teeth because they are compatible with bridges, dentures and single crowns.
