The benefits of having Mini-implants fitted in the City of Leeds

Saturday, September 21st, 2013

Grandparent and daughterSince the day that dental implants came along, they were a revelation to tooth loss and they seemed to be the ultimate answer to dentures. But as technology refined this procedure, implants have been taken to a different level, especially the tiny ones. Full-on implants do an amazing job when it comes to tooth loss, but then so does the mini-implants of the world. These have been utilised in all areas of dentistry. For a start, in the city of Leeds, mini-implants can be planted into your jaw in no time what-so-ever- in just a couple of hours with the minimal of damage and they play great roles in the problem of tooth loss as well. They help to give better strength to dental bridges and improve their longevity. They can be a solid way of supporting small crowns when a tooth has been lost. But the revelation of having a mini or two fitted has helped to improve the freedom of denture wearers: a few of these strategically placed in the mouth can lock a denture firmly into the mouth and again, give tremendous strength and support.

Diamond Dentures in Central Leeds

Thursday, March 15th, 2012

If  the tragic day comes when you find you have to wear dentures, you may feel that the end is nigh for your smile and a lot of this is due to the portrayal of dentures as horribly false looking and incredibly hard to retain in the mouth.

But before you start writing your will, you would be wise to take a look around central Leeds first for modern dentures. Once you have been measured up, you will find a great choice of materials, which are soft, lifelike and provide optimum suction and stability when fitted into the mouth. Adhesives have also become more durable and stronger, helping increase the security of your dentures.

You can even have mini-implants fitted to hold them even firmly in place. But there is also a more health driven reason behind the need of dentures.

The first is the need to retain the bite of your jaws and having dentures will protect this. The lack of teeth in the mouth can also lead to premature ageing in the face, due to the sagging and creasing of unsupported skin.

Partial dentures have also become more common because dentists prefer to save teeth where they can and they are more preferable to full dentures because they can be attached to the remaining teeth and lock in strongly.

Dental Implants in the City of Leeds

Saturday, February 4th, 2012

Dental implants involve fasten a false tooth, or teeth, to the jawbone of an individual via a titanium rod. The titanium rod is first attached to the jawbone, then dentures or crowns are added and the implant is left to fuse with the jawbone. Normally, one implant is able to support several false teeth and in extreme cases, five or six implants can replace all the teeth in the jaw.

The process of dental implanting is a long one, it can take several months to prepare for and to complete due to X-rays and CT scans. The actual operation, normally carried out under local anaesthetic, involves the dentist drilling a hole in your jawbone and securing the implant into this hole. A second, minor, surgical procedure may then be required in order to uncover the tip of the implant from beneath the gum. Once this has been successful, the false teeth may be screwed or clipped onto the implant.

For the people of the City of Leeds, there are currently two methods of implanting available: immediate and delayed. Immediate implants take place straight after a tooth is removed, the implant is placed directly into that tooth socket and there is no need to form another hole. However, it is possible to perform a delayed implant. Following this procedure, a tooth is removed surgically and the jawbone is left to heal for several months. Once the bone has repaired itself, a new hole will be formed through drilling, and the implant will be anchored at a slightly different location.

It is possible to suffer from temporary side effects after implant surgery; swelling, discomfort and headaches are common. However, there can be some more serious complications related to the procedure such as: neuronal damage in the tissue, infection of the gum or jaw and extensive or severe bleeding. These complications can be dangerous but are extremely rare.

Central Leeds dentists offer effective mini implants to secure dentures

Monday, November 22nd, 2010

The common problem of loosing teeth can cause great difficulties with talking eating and drinking, not to mention your confidence. Society is incredibly image-conscious and having a gap in one’s smile where a teeth ought to be can lead to low self-esteem. Dentures can solve this problem by providing you with realistic looking replacements that will complete your smile.

Central Leeds dentists are now offering an effective way for your denture to be secured to your mouth using mini-implants. Acting as a substitute for the lost root part of your tooth, mini implants are made from highly durable titanium which is compatible with your mouth. Using a predilled socket, the implants are attached to your jaw with the aim being that it will fuse with your bone in a process known as osseointegration. In this way the new tooth or teeth are given an extremely stable housing in which to sit.

Having assessed the appropriate area for decay and then made sure it is free from debris, your dentist will perform an Xray or CT scan before making a small incision in the jaw under local anaesthetic. Once the titanium mini implant is installed, the jaw will be stitched back up. A temporary replacement will be worn during the healing process before a specially made new tooth can be attached to the mini implant which will already be successfully fusing with the surrounding bone.

The use of mini-implants provide a long-term solution to tooth loss. The titanium is immensely durable and the fusing process means that the replacement denture will be secure. You can clean replacements housed in mini implants just like normal teeth and not have to worry about dentures that will slip and become unclean. Anxiety-free dentures with mini-implants from Central Leeds dentist

Monday, December 14th, 2009

For patients who are denture wearers, the fear of your dentures falling out at inopportune moments can be a real source of worry and anxiety. Many denture wearers resort to wearing sticky and messy dental adhesive strips and gels for that added feeling of security. There is an alternative that can put your mind at rest and involves no unnecessary fuss or adhesives. Mini-dental implants are a series of small screws anchored into the jawbone to which dentures can be snapped on and off.

Like normal dental implants, the screws are usually made from titanium or other strong metal non-harmful to the human body. They are drilled into place in the jawbone before being left for several weeks to allow the bone and tissue to fuse to the screws in a process called osseointergration. The implants will have a set of clips attached to them, which will be used to fasten them to the dentures. Small wells and clips will be fitted to the dentures so that they can clip on securely to the implants. These wells can be fitted to your existing set of dentures to reduce cost. The dentures can then be simply clipped on and off to the implants safely and securely and with no limits on what you can eat. For the first time ever dentures will actually feel like real teeth.

Unlike the larger normal implants, there are few factors that limit the fitting of mini-implants. For example, it is not necessary to have a very strong jawbone for mini-implants, which is essential for the full sized variety. This means that mini-implants are perfectly suited to older patients.

If you are always worrying about your loose dentures and you want a life free of the anxiety, make an appointment to see a Central Leeds dentist and ask about the benefits of mini-implants.

Central Leeds dentist fixes dentures to new mini-implants

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

Wearing dentures can be embarrassing and many patients are constantly anxious that their dentures are going to fall out at inopportune moments. Dentures should be secured by suction alone, but because the gums are constantly changing, the suction is often lost causing the dentures to feel loose. Many patients use dental adhesive gel or strips to secure their dentures. This can often be very messy and prevent patients from eating and drinking certain things they want.

With the advancement in technology and subsequent improvement in dental procedures there is now a solution that can solve loose dentures once and for all. Mini-implants can now be anchored directly into the jawbone to which the dentures can be clipped on and off. This new breakthrough provides the added security to patients that can ease their anxiety and allow them to enjoy a life free from the worry of loose dentures.

Mini-implants are about 1.8 millimetres thick, which is roughly the width of a toothpick, and require only minimal surgery to fix them to the jaw. In most cases six mini-implants will be needed to secure a set of dentures. The implants will be drilled into the jawbone and then left for a few weeks to allow the screws to fuse with the bone in a process called osseointergration.

Once secure, the dentist can then attach clips into wells made in the dentures to allow them to snap on and off the implants. In most cases patients will not even require a new set of dentures as the clips can simply be attached to their existing pair. Once the dentures have been modified to clip to the new implants, the patient is then ready to enjoy an anxiety free dinner, of exactly what they want to eat, that very evening.

Mini-implants are the perfect solution to the anxiety of loose dentures. This simple surgical process could alleviate all the worry that can affect denture wearers and allow them to move on with their lives as if they had a full set of natural teeth. If you suffer from loose dentures, ask a Central Leeds dentist about mini-implants.
