Three Tips to Keep Your Whitened Teeth As Long As Possible

Tuesday, March 21st, 2017

shutterstock_503980750For most of us, a bright, white smile is a thing of beauty. If you’ve had your teeth whitened, you want to keep them in pristine condition for as long as possible. Here are three top tips to help you prolong your smile’s sparkle:

  1. Brush twice a day, every day: brushing isn’t just important for removing bacteria and food debris. It also polishes the surface of the teeth giving them a gorgeous glow. Devoting just a few minutes to cleaning your teeth twice a day will make all the difference to your oral health, as well as the look of your smile.
  1. Avoid heavily coloured foods and drinks: your diet often plays a role in staining the teeth. If you’ve had your teeth whitened, try and avoid foods that contain staining agents, such as coffee, tea, soy sauce, cola, wine and dark berries. It also goes without saying that avoiding smoking will help to preserve the whiteness of your teeth.
  1. Use a straw when drinking: if you can’t bear the thought of going without a coffee in the morning or you fancy a glass of cola from time to time, use a straw when you drink. This helps to prevent direct contact between the liquid and your tooth enamel. Using a straw can also help to reduce sensitivity.

After you’ve had your teeth whitened, your dentist will give you some aftercare tips, but don’t hesitate to ask for more advice if you need it.

The Ins and Outs of Enlighten Whitening

Thursday, September 22nd, 2016

18625010We are proud to offer our clients the best cosmetic dental treatments on the market, including Enlighten whitening. Enlighten is the world’s leading professional whitening system; if you’re looking for a beautiful, bright smile this autumn, this is the perfect choice!

The ins and outs of Enlighten

Enlighten is a whitening treatment that uses both at-home and in-chair methods. Treatment takes 15 days, with the first 14 days involving home treatment followed by a professional in-chair session on the 15th day.

We recommend Enlighten because it is tried and tested, the results are amazing and long-lasting and the procedure is safe and simple. This is the only treatment currently on the market that guarantees the lightest, brightest shade of white, B1.

The Enlighten treatment process

Enlighten treatment is simple and convenient. Before you start your treatment, we will ask you to pop into the clinic so that we can make an impression of your teeth, which will be used to create your bespoke whitening trays.

When your trays are ready, you will undergo 14 days of treatment at home. All you have to do is wear your trays for around 6-9 hours per day (most people prefer to wear theirs at night while they sleep) and you will start to notice that your teeth look lighter and whiter.

On the 15th day of your treatment, we invite you back to the clinic for a power whitening session, which lasts just one hour. During this procedure, whitening agent will be placed on the teeth and bright light will be used to activate it. After treatment, your smile will look stunning and the results will be visible straight away.

Enlighten Your Smile with Teeth Whitening

Monday, August 8th, 2016
Beautiful young lady smiling

Who wouldn’t want to have a perfect smile?  We all remember the way our teeth used to positively sparkle when we were younger.  But with the passing years it is inevitable to lose that sheen.  Just like the way our hair can begin to lack its youthful sheen, teeth can become dull or even stained.  This is not something that just has to be accepted and whitening procedures are available if you want to have that perfect smile again.

Teeth whitening procedures can now be carried out mainly by you at home, for greater convenience.  Enlighten teeth whitening is one such method and it has become extremely popular in the United States.  This is largely because it is able to restore teeth to B1, which dentists term as the whitest possible shade for teeth to be.  No matter how stained or dull your teeth have become, Enlighten teeth whitening can rectify the problem.

How does it work?

Special trays are constructed by your dentist to ensure that there is a really close fit and the whitening gel applied to them can work on your teeth.  You will wear the trays every night for two weeks before an appointment with your dentist, which should last about 40 minutes.  Wearing the trays once a night will help to maximise the results of Enlighten teeth whitening, but the main treatment is over in just a fortnight.

Wedding Day Smiles – Whiten Your Teeth in Time for Your Big Day!

Tuesday, July 12th, 2016

wedding smileThere are many things to prepare for before a wedding. In the run-up to the big event, with all the stress and anxiety that comes with it, there is no need to feel even more worried due to your smile. Wedding photos are how people remember their important day, and the best thing you can do for your wedding day snaps is to show off your beautiful smile! If you are feeling self-conscious about your teeth, or think your smile is not worth showing off, tooth whitening treatments may be the perfect way to restore your confidence, so that looking happy in photos of the big occasion need not be a worry.

Why do teeth discolour?

Tooth whitening involves bleaching the teeth after they have become darker or stained. This discolouration is, to some degree, a natural part of growing older, as the mineral structure of teeth changes due to aging. However, the discolouration of teeth can be increased by smoking, as well as consuming certain foods and drinks, particularly tea and coffee. It can also be caused by bacterial build-up as a result of poor oral hygiene.

How does teeth whitening work?

The ‘at-home whitening’ procedure involves the use of custom-built bleaching trays for your teeth. These should be worn on the teeth for around six hours a day, for between five and fourteen days, in order to see the best results – so some preparation time is needed before the wedding day. The chemicals used are oxidising agents, which can penetrate tooth enamel, due to its porous nature, in order to bleach internal stains. Eventually, the dentin (the tooth layer under enamel) also becomes bleached. The effects of this can last several months for teeth whitening patients in the City of Leeds. The whitening agents should lighten your teeth, but not affect the colour of fillings or most other materials used to restore teeth.

Dazzle Everyone with Your Dream Smile!

Monday, June 20th, 2016

1050560_blogTeeth whitening is a very popular treatment and if you are looking for a whiter, brighter smile, we could have the perfect solution. We offer amazing home whitening kits, which allow you to get a gorgeous and radiant smile at home.

What does home whitening involve?

After your initial consultation, we will provide you with a home whitening kit. This contains your custom-made whitening trays. The trays are similar to a mouth guard worn for sport and you wear them during the night for a set period of time. They are made according to an impression of your teeth, which means they fit your mouth perfectly.

The whitening trays contain bleaching agent, which gradually lightens the shade of your teeth, giving you a healthier looking and more aesthetically pleasing smile.

What are the advantages of home whitening?

Home whitening is convenient and hassle-free and the best thing is, you can have treatment without even worrying about sitting in a dental chair or arranging time off work to go to the dentist.

The whitening trays are custom-made for a perfect fit and the treatment is very effective. You can also wear the trays at night, so you don’t have to worry about other people seeing them or them interfering with your normal daily life.

Are there any side-effects of whitening?

The most common side-effect of whitening, although it still remains uncommon, is increased sensitivity. This means that you may experience mild discomfort when you eat something very hot or cold, but sensitivity should subside very quickly. Other possible effects include over-bleaching, which makes the smile look less natural, and chemical burns, although this is extremely rare. If you would like more information about teeth whitening, get in touch with the team at City Dental in Leeds.

A White Smile for a White Wedding

Monday, May 2nd, 2016

wedding smileEvery bride wants to look their best on their wedding day. Months are spent planning to make sure that the dress fits, the hair and make-up looks perfect and that a professional photographer will be on hand to capture the memories the couple and their family will treasure for the rest of their lives.

But those photographs will not look quite so impressive if the bride or groom’s smile is less than dazzling. This is why couples are now choosing to undergo cosmetic dentistry ahead of their big day, in order to get the perfect white smile for their wedding.

Treatment from London dentists can range from procedures that have to be planned a few weeks or months in advance, such as orthodontic braces to fix crooked or gappy smiles, to those that can be booked just a few days before the ceremony. The latest teeth whitening treatments use lasers to have an immediate impact on the colour of your teeth and are the perfect quick fix, especially if you thought of cosmetic dentistry at the last minute.

Many patients expect orthodontic work to take years to fix their teeth, but there are modern brands, such as the Invisalign Lite plastic aligners and Social 6 lingual braces, which are designed especially to work quickly on just the front teeth, the ones that are most likely to be seen in the wedding photographs.

If you are too late even for these rapid options and are worried that your crooked or missing teeth are going to stick out in the wedding snaps, there is still hope. Porcelain veneers can be fitted over your natural teeth in just a couple of appointments – one to take measurements and one to attach the thin veneers, masking any problems with your smile and creating a perfect one for the perfect wedding day.

Get Whiter Teeth in the Heart of Leeds

Wednesday, March 16th, 2016

2977218_blogA tooth’s natural whiteness can start to fade over time if the tooth enamel’s mineral composition starts to change. The process of discolouration can be accelerated by numerous factors such as smoking or consumption of coffee or red wine.

The process of teeth whitening involves brightening the teeth through the use of oxidising agents such as carbamide peroxide and hydrogen peroxide. These agents get to internal stains by penetrating the tooth enamel and gradually bleach the layer of dentin lying beneath the tooth enamel. In most cases teeth whitening results will last for several months, but this will vary from person to person. Premature discolouring can be caused by smoking or consumption of liquids with a strong colour.

Home whitening treatment

Sometimes patients will wear a custom-designed tray containing a bleaching agent in a process known as at-home whitening. The low intensity oxidising agent in the tray needs to be kept close to the teeth for roughly 6 hours a day for between 5 and 15 days. The results of this process can vary according to what system has been used. Some will notice hardly any change after a few days, while for others the change could be significant.

Teeth brightening treatment

For most people, teeth whitening is an effective treatment that leads to teeth being significantly brightened. Some stains, however, do not respond to bleaching. For tetracycline staining, because the agent has to get to the tooth’s dentin layer, the process of bleaching will take longer. If there is staining on just one part of a tooth, there will be a noticeable difference between the stained and unstained parts, meaning that although the tooth will generally look whiter, the results will be less impressive. Any white spots on a tooth may also be more obvious once the tooth has been whitened. In general, decayed teeth or teeth that have a natural grey tinge will not respond as well to whitening.

Although teeth whitening can slightly change the colour of composite restorations, it will not change the colour of any restorations made of metal, ceramic material or porcelain. There’s no stress or hassle involved and you won’t feel a thing during treatment.

Before you start your treatment, we’ll talk to you about what’s involved and have a look at your teeth. We then make an impression of your teeth to be used to create your bespoke whitening trays. These are appliances that look similar to mouth guards and filled with whitening agent. When your trays are ready, you take them home and your treatment can begin.

Home whitening simply involves wearing your trays for around six hours per day for 14 consecutive days. You can wear your trays at any time to fit in with your daily schedule. The results will last for some time, but it is possible to top up treatment to give your smile a boost if you fancy injecting a little extra sparkle.

See Your Teeth Sparkle This Season With Sensational Teeth Whitening

Friday, December 4th, 2015

3884462_blogIf you dream of sparkly white teeth this Christmas, you’ve come to the right place! At City Dental Leeds, we offer amazing home whitening treatment, which will guarantee a gorgeous smile for the festive season.

Home whitening couldn’t be simpler and we also include a scale and polish session with our experienced hygienists.

What does treatment involve?

Home whitening treatment is very simple and it’s really convenient, so you won’t have to worry about fitting it into your busy social schedule in the run up to Christmas Day. Before you start treatment, we invite you to come in for an informal consultation. We will check your teeth and gums and then create moulds to be used to make your bespoke whitening trays. When your trays are ready, you can take them home and start your treatment. The trays are similar to mouth guards and contain whitening agent. This lightens the shade of your enamel when it comes into contact with the teeth, giving you a lighter, brighter smile.

You will probably notice a difference after just a couple of days, but for the best results, we recommend 2 weeks of treatment. This involves wearing your trays for around 6 hours per day and you can choose when to wear them.

After treatment, you can expect your teeth to look noticeably whiter and the results should last for some time. You can also have top-up treatment to give your teeth a little boost further down the line if you wish to.

Is teeth whitening safe?

If you read the news, you may have noticed a lot of stories about teeth whitening of late. The truth is that whitening is a very safe and effective procedure when carried out under the supervision of a trained dentist. Dentists have expertise in treating patients and they also use carefully selected whitening products. There is a very low risk of increased sensitivity, but otherwise you shouldn’t notice any difference, apart from the whiteness of your teeth! If you have concerns about the risks, don’t hesitate to ask your dentist. They will be happy to answer any questions and put your mind at ease.
