Your dentist will first give you a local anaesthetic and then shape the gums by removing the excessive tissue with a laser- normally, this will only be done to the teeth that show when you smile. For a few days, you will have to be careful to keep your mouth free from infection by using a good anti-septic mouth-wash; you may also suffer some discomfort, but this can be checked will painkillers.
Once the gums have settled down, the dentist may advise that you have further cosmetic work done, either by having veneers fitted, or, you may be able to get away with some laser bleaching. Either way, you’ll be smiling after!
