Looking for a Long-Term Solution to Missing Teeth?

Monday, May 16th, 2016

2433646_sAt City Dental we offer a range of tooth replacement treatments, including natural-looking dental implants.

Dental implants represent a long-term solution for lost teeth and they enable you to enjoy all the same benefits of a strong and healthy natural tooth.

All about dental implants

Dental implants are made from titanium and their purpose is to replace the root of a missing tooth. The implant sits in a socket in the jaw bone and is able to become part of the bone tissue thanks to a process called osseointegration.

Once the process is complete, a new restoration can be attached and this replaces the crown section of the tooth. One of the many benefits of dental implants is that they are compatible with a range of different restorations and this means they are suitable for most patients.

Implant treatment takes between three and nine months and the result is a natural looking, strong and functional new tooth or set of teeth.

What are the advantages of dental implants?

Dental implants are the best long-term option for replacing missing teeth and they also offer many additional benefits, including excellent aesthetics, enhanced bite power and durability. Implants are easy to maintain and act like natural teeth, so you have complete peace of mind and can enjoy eating and socialising with confidence. Implants also help to reduce bone loss and they can be fitted to crowns, dentures or a dental bridge, making them hugely versatile.

Get Your Smile Back for the New Year with Dental Implants

Wednesday, December 16th, 2015

2433646_sThe best way to start a New Year is with a beaming, bright smile on your face and with our dental implants, we can ensure you start 2016 in style. Dental implants are designed to replace the root section of a missing tooth. Implants are a long-term solution for tooth loss and are a viable option for most patients with missing teeth.

Everything you need to know about dental implants

Dental implants are rods made from titanium. They are implanted into the jawbone to take on the role of the missing tooth root. Titanium is used because it is a bio-compatible material. This enables the implant to fuse into the actual bone tissue, providing optimum stability for the new tooth. The process of osseointegration can take up to 8 months and once this is complete, the head of the implant is attached to a dental bridge, crown or denture and the crown section, the visible part of the tooth, is replaced.

Implant treatment is suited to many people with missing teeth. As implants are compatible with a range of different types of restoration, they can be used to replace a single lost tooth or multiple teeth.

How could implants benefit me?

There are countless benefits of replacing missing teeth, from improved oral health and clearer speech, to improved ability to eat and the obvious aesthetic benefits of a healthy looking, beautiful smile. Implants are a long-term solution and represent a long-term investment.

With implants, you will feel and look like you have your natural teeth back and you can enjoy greater confidence when you smile, speak or eat in public.

Dental Implants Support for Patients in Leeds

Friday, November 20th, 2015

2433646_sA dental implant is a root device (a metal rod typically made from titanium), that a specialised built in screw equipped to hold a false tooth or teeth in place. Once the jawbone has fused with the inserted implant, a crown, denture or bridge can be attached onto the screw. Like natural teeth, dental implants can help stimulate bone growth. Dental implants are particularly helpful in this case, as when a tooth is lost the resulting jaw bone loss can be a major problem.

Problems with missing teeth

As the jaw bone continues to shrink, dentures will be less likely to fit and the entire structure of the mouth can be irreversibly compromised. This results in very minimal support for removable dentures or crowns and can lead to other problems related to poorly fitted dentures.

How do dental implants work?

As mentioned before, dental implants are comprised of a titanium rod and it’s this titanium which makes an implant so well suited for helping growth. Titanium is the most bio-compatible metals of them all; not only is it strong and flexible, it has also been found to encourage bone growth and enhance the bone regeneration around the dental implant, preventing a valuable loss of bone structure.

However, different factors can affect the implant’s success in achieving bone growth. The bone density in the place where the implant is being fitted will affect how successful bone growth is around the implant and is in fact one of the most important factors. Maintaining good oral health also is a major factor in how well the regenerating bones respond to the titanium so it’s important that you keep up with brushing your teeth.

Dental Implants for the Replacement of Missing Teeth

Monday, September 28th, 2015

iStock_000001998629XSmallDental implants are a perfect and permanent way to replace missing teeth without the difficulty often associated with dentures. As dentures are prone to slip and slide whilst eating or talking, especially on the lower jaw, dental implants are the best alternative, using titanium anchors to stabilise your dental restorative.

Dental implants make your dentures stable, more comfortable and easy to use, giving you a perfect smile and your confidence back.

What are the benefits of dental implants?

The main benefit of dental implants is that they can last a person a whole lifetime. Dental implants will replace any missing or damaged teeth and look just as real as the surrounding healthy teeth without damaging any of them. In fact they do the complete opposite, as dental implants can assist with preserving the adjacent bone and gum tissue, which is usually worn down with the use of traditional dentures.

What happens during the dental implant procedure?

The procedure for placing dental implants involves surgically placing implant titanium anchors into the jawbone of the patient. These anchors will then function like the natural root of the tooth and after a sufficient amount of time has passed the anchors will bond with the bone and gum tissue surrounding them. Studs are then attached to the anchors, so when the gum and bone has healed natural looking crowns, dentures or bridges can be attached to the studs to give you back that confidence-boosting smile.

Once this is done you continue living just the way you did with your original teeth and wont have to suffer the problems that come with dentures such as eating certain food, as these teeth are just as good as natural teeth.

How to Fix Gaps in the Smile

Thursday, May 14th, 2015

2603730_blogIf you have missing teeth, we have a number of effective solutions on offer. Whether you have a single missing tooth or you’re looking for a natural-looking replacement for a whole arch of lost teeth, we will help to restore your smile and build your confidence.

Our tooth replacement treatments

We always advise patients to consider treatment to fill gaps in the smile and we offer a range of modern treatment options including dental bridges, dentures and dental implants. Bridges and implants are popular solutions for single missing teeth, while dentures and implants are a good option for multiple missing teeth.

Dental bridges

Dental bridges are a simple, effective and affordable solution for missing teeth. They are generally used to replace a single missing tooth and treatment usually involves 2 sessions around 2-3 weeks apart. Bridges are custom-made for each patient and they can be made from metal or ceramic materials. The most common type of dental bridge, a traditional fixed bridge, is made from a false tooth with a crown on each side to support it. The aim of the bridge is to seamlessly replace the missing tooth. Bridges are not permanent, but they should last for 10-15 years.

Dental implants

Dental implants are the newest solution on the market and they represent a viable option for patients of all ages with different dental needs. Implants are designed to replace the tooth root and they are compatible with dentures, bridges and crowns, so they can be used to replace any number of teeth. Implant treatment takes much longer than other treatments, however this system is designed to last a lifetime and it also offers many benefits, so treatment is well worth the wait. Implants are secured into sockets in the jaw bone and once they have integrated into the bone tissue, they are then ready to be connected to the new restoration. With implants, you can enjoy the same degree of stability and functionality as a healthy natural tooth.

Dentures

Dentures are a very popular choice for patients who have multiple missing teeth or full arches of lost teeth. They are sets of prosthetic teeth held in place by the natural suction of the gums. With dentures, you can eat and speak as you would with natural teeth and you can also enjoy a beautiful smile. Dentures are custom-made for comfort and modern dentures are aesthetically pleasing.

Magnificent Mini Implants

Sunday, April 5th, 2015

iStock_000001998629XSmallAt City Dental Leeds, we’re delighted to offer a range of terrific tooth replacement treatments including magnificent mini implants. As you may have guessed, these are smaller versions of traditional dental implants. If you’re looking for an effective, long-term solution for lost teeth or troublesome dentures, these innovative devices could be just the ticket.

What exactly are mini dental implants?

Mini dental implants are smaller versions of traditional dental implants. These light, titanium prostheses are inserted into openings in the jaw bone to replace the missing tooth root. Once they have settled into the bone tissue, implants can then be connected to a new restoration that replaces the visible section of the tooth (the crown). Traditional dental implants require strong, dense bone tissue to enable them to integrate fully. If you lack density in your jaw bone and are unable to tolerate a traditional implant, mini implants may be the way forward.

Mini implants are commonly attached to dentures to provide a stable, long-term solution for patients who have multiple missing teeth. Mini implants are easier to tolerate than traditional implants and the procedure is quicker and less invasive.

How are mini implants fitted?

We usually fit mini dental implants under local anaesthetic or light sedation. The procedure is minimally invasive and involves a very advanced surgical technique. The head of the implant is left exposed and this is attached to the new restoration.

The benefits of mini implants for denture wearers

Dentures have been an effective replacement for missing natural teeth for many years. However, they can be problematic. Mini implants offer an extremely stable base for dentures, giving the patient the opportunity to enjoy enhanced oral function, amazing aesthetics and the peace of mind that their denture will never come loose. Implants also offer much greater stability than the suction of the gums and this means that the denture has a much more comfortable fit.

In barely 2 hours, a laser will have made the pin-point incision through your gum and into the jawbone after which, the small titanium root is screwed into place. There are many benefits to going down this route; implants are very strong and once in, life-long friends. They are very resistant to infection and will give and incredible amount of support to any new fitting that is attached to them. For these reasons alone, they are often considered to be more reliable than the original root and tooth that has been lost; not that this is a reason you should go out and lose more teeth, but it is testament to just how good dental implants have become.
