We Use A Range Of Techniques For Our Nervous Patients

Monday, February 9th, 2015

585804_blogWe understand that anxiety can be crippling for some of our patients and we offer a range of techniques to make patients feel comfortable and help them to build confidence and gradually overcome their fears and worries.

In addition to providing a relaxing, calming space, DVDs and music, magazines and hot drinks to make patients feel comfortable , we also have a really understanding, experienced and compassionate team and we will always go out of our way to help nervous patients to feel as calm as possible. We want to work with you to slowly build your confidence and enable you to come to the dentist without any feelings of dread or nervousness.

One of the most effective techniques we use to help comfort and relax nervous patients is sedation.

About sedation

Sedation is a technique, which is used in clinics and hospitals up and down the country every day; it is widely used in dentistry and medicine to make patients feel comfortable during procedures.

Sedation is used to induce a profound state of relaxation; it involves using sedative medication and it is not the same as general anaesthetic. When you are sedated, you feel drowsy, but you remain conscious; you will be able to hear your dentist and speak to them if you wish to. Once the procedure is complete, you will be given medication to make the sedative wear off and you will gradually start to feel more awake and alert. It can take up to 24 hours for the effects of sedation to wear off completely and we advise you to arrange for somebody to take you home and stay with you during this period of time.

If you are a nervous patient, we are here to help. Our caring team has experience in caring for anxious and phobic patients and we will do everything we can to provide the treatment you need with minimal stress and inconvenience.

Why We Offer Dental Sedation In The City Of Leeds

Saturday, January 10th, 2015

352388_blogWe appreciate that many patients feel anxious when a trip to the dentist is looming and this is why we provide sedation. If you are very nervous about having a dental procedure or you suffer from dental phobia, we can offer treatment under sedation to help you to feel relaxed.

Our dental team is experienced in caring for nervous patients and we use painless techniques and advanced treatments to make patients feel comfortable and prevent them from experiencing pain; we also encourage patients to relax and make themselves feel at home with a drink, a film or some soothing music and we are always happy to arrange a chat or a tour before treatment to help reassure clients and answer any questions.

What is sedation?

We are able to perform a range of procedures under sedation. Sedation is a relaxation technique, which is used to prevent patients from feeling pain or experiencing anxiety when they have a dental or medical procedure. Unlike general anaesthetic, sedatives do not make you lose consciousness and you can return home straight after treatment. Once you are sedated, you will simply feel a little drowsy and you won’t feel any pain. After sedation, it’s normal to feel a little out of it and sleepy, but you will soon start to feel more alert; it can take up to 24 hours for the effects to wear off fully and once we have checked you over, we ask for you to arrange for somebody to take you home and sit with you.

The benefits of sedation

Sedation helps to relax patients. Often, even the thought of having dental treatment can make people feel very stressed and nervous and sometimes, people feel so scared that they avoid going to the dentist for years on end, even if they have dental problems. Sedation helps to make dental treatment less daunting, both before and during a procedure and patients can go into the treatment room with the peace of mind that they are not going to feel any pain. Sedation can also be beneficial for patients who require complex treatment, as they will feel more comfortable.

What is sedation and how does it help anxious patients?

Sedation is a technique, which is used to help patients to feel relaxed and prevent them from feeling pain when they have medical or dental procedures. Sedation involves the use of sedative medication, which helps to induce a state of complete relaxation. When you are sedated, you don’t feel any pain and you feel calm; you don’t lose consciousness like when you have general anaesthetic and recovery time is shorter.

Sedation is a really effective way of making patients feel relaxed when they have treatment, but it also helps people to feel calmer in the build-up to a procedure, as they know that they’re not going to feel any pain. Sedation is also beneficial for patients who are having a long or complex procedure.

What happens after treatment?

When you have sedation, you feel drowsy and a bit sleepy and it can take a while for the effects of sedatives to wear off. We allow patients to go home after treatment, but we do ask for them to arrange a lift home and for somebody to stay with them. After sedation, it’s advisable to take it easy and avoid exercising, drinking alcohol, driving or operating machinery.

Treatment for nervous patients

Dental fear is very common and most of our patients admit to feeling at least a little nervous when they come to the practice, especially if a complex procedure is around the corner. We are very caring and compassionate and we make time for our patients; we are happy to show patients around the practice, introduce them to dentists and answer any questions before you have treatment and we also offer techniques, including sedation, to make treatment less daunting.

Sedation is a popular choice for nervous patients and it can really make a difference to how you feel before and during treatment. With sedation, we use sedative medication to bring on a deep state of calm and patients feel completely relaxed during the procedure. When you are under sedation, you won’t feel any pain, but you will still be conscious, so if you want to speak to your dentist you will be able to do this.

After sedation, you’ll be able to go home, but we do suggest that you ask a friend or family member to drive you home and stay with you while the effects of the drugs wear off, as you may be a little drowsy.

If you’re worried about going to the dentist or you haven’t been to the dentist for many years because of dental anxiety, we can help you to overcome your fears. Call us now to speak to one of our friendly reception team or pop in to the clinic if you are in Leeds city centre.

We Can Save You From The Clutches Of Dental Phobia

Tuesday, June 10th, 2014

2986104_blogMany patients feel anxious when they go to the dentist, especially if they are undergoing a procedure, rather than having a simple check-up, but we are here to ease your fears and help you to feel completely relaxed. We understand that getting into the dental chair can be a major problem for some clients and we do everything we can to make your time with us completely stress-free.

Dental phobia is different to anxiety; a phobia is an intense fear and in the case of dental phobia, it can be so serious that patients avoid having treatment or seeing a dentist for many years. We have experience in treating patients who have dental phobia and we will do everything we can to try and help to make you feel calm and ease your fears. We promote regular check-ups because they are important for general and oral health and we want you to feel confident and calm enough to be able to visit a dentist on a regular basis.

Sedation

Sedation is a technique, which is used frequently in medicine and dentistry to help patients relax and prevent them from feeling pain when they have treatment or undergo a procedure. It involves the use of sedative medications, which bring the body into a state of relaxation. Sedation is not the same as general anaesthetic because patients do not lose consciousness during the procedure; this means that you can communicate with your dentist if you want to.

When you are sedated, it makes you feel a bit drowsy and you won’t feel any pain. Most people don’t have much recollection of what happened when they come around later. It can take a little time for the effects of the sedative to wear off totally, so we recommend asking somebody to take you home and stay with you for a while; you won’t be able to drive for 24 hours.

Make Your Dental Fears A Thing Of The Past In The Heart Of Leeds

Sunday, April 27th, 2014

585983_blogA fear of the dentist is common and most of us admit to feeling a little nervous when sitting in the waiting room waiting for our names to be called. However, for some patients, even the thought of going to the dentist is enough to make them feel extremely anxious and this means that they put off having dental treatment until they are in pain and can no longer tolerate the suffering. Dental health is so important and we encourage all our patients to have regular dental checks. If you suffer from dental phobia or extreme anxiety, we want to help you to overcome your fears, so that you are able to attend regular appointments without having to face anxiety and nerves.

We use the latest technology, the best treatments and methods, such as sedation, to help our patients to feel comfortable and confident. Sedation is very popular with nervous patients because it induces a state of calm, which benefits the body and the mind. Once you have been sedated, you won’t feel any pain and you won’t have much memory of what happened during the procedure once you come around.

Sedation is not the same as having general anaesthetic because you remain aware and conscious. There are also, not the same risks involved. If you want to, you can chat to your dentist while you have treatment and you will be able to hear them. Once your treatment is complete, you will be free to go home, but you should arrange for somebody to give you a lift and stay with you until the effects of the sedative have completely worn off.

Find Peace Of Mind And Face Your Fears With Our Soothing Leeds Dentists

Tuesday, April 15th, 2014

3268322_blogGoing to the dentist can make most people feel a little anxious, but for some, the thought of sitting in the waiting room or lying in the dental chair is terrifying. We understand that having dental treatment can be a scary prospect and our dentists have training in caring for patients with dental fears.

We offer sedation for nervous patients, which helps to make you feel more relaxed and calm. Sedation is commonly used in medicine and dentistry and involves the use of sedative medication. Sedation is a less risky alternative to general anaesthetic; it doesn’t make you lose consciousness and you can still hear and communicate with your dentist. When you are sedated, you feel drowsy and completely calm and you won’t feel any pain.

After your dentist has finished treatment, they will give you medication to bring you around and it will take a while for the effects of the sedative to fade completely. Once you are ready to go home, we advise you to rest; we advise patients to ask a friend or relative to accompany them home, as it is not possible to drive after sedation.

One of the problems we face is that nervous patients have such profound fear that they put off going to the dentist for years on end and we want to help patients to conquer their fears, so that they feel confident and able to go to the dentist for regular appointments.  With sedation, the prospect of treatment is less daunting and we hope to make patients feel comfortable and relaxed during their time with us.

You Can End Your Dental Phobia Nightmare Right Here In Leeds

Saturday, March 29th, 2014

4361359_blogDental phobia is a profound fear of going to the dentist or having dental treatment, which may prevent patients from seeing their dentist on a regular basis. Phobias make people feel very nervous, anxious and uneasy and sometimes, patients feel so scared that they avoid having dental treatment for prolonged periods of time. We recommend regular check-ups for all our patients to reduce the risk of oral diseases and we can help nervous patients with a range of techniques and treatments.

We understand that some people feel very anxious when they come to the surgery or even think about seeing a dentist and we have experience in treating patients with dental phobia. One treatment we often use to help patients to feel more relaxed is sedation.

About sedation

Sedation is a treatment, which involves using sedative medication to make patients feel calm and reduce anxiety. We often recommend sedation for patients with dental phobia because it helps to prevent them from feeling nervous before they have treatment, as well as during the actual procedure. If patients know they are having sedation and they will not feel any pain or remember anything about the procedure, this makes treatment much less daunting and patients will feel much more confident when the day of their treatment arrives.

Sedation makes patients feel drowsy and relaxed without any of the risks of general anaesthetic and most people have very little memory of what happened during the procedure. After sedation, patients are able to go home with the help of a friend or relative and the effects of the drugs will wear off completely within the next 24 hours.

If you suffer from dental phobia and you had given up hope of overcoming your fears, we can help to change this and enable you to have treatment and take advantage of the benefits of regular dental checks.
