It is a fairly unusual condition to have in central Leeds, but having a ‘gummy’ smile can be as equally distressing for someone as having crooked teeth. Sometimes the gums tend to cover a lot of the teeth which makes them look very short when you smile and this can greatly impair your confidence and affect the way you talk to people. It is a generic thing but one that modern dentistry has an answer to and in the scheme of things, it is a very easy problem to solve. Once you have seen your dentist, you will then check in for a thirty minute session and the excess gum tissue will be removed from the teeth that affect your smile with laser surgery- there is no need to reduce the gum tissue from the back teeth. For a few days, there may be some discomfort, but that can be countered with painkillers and antiseptic mouthwashes. In a lot of cases, further cosmetic treatment will be required for the teeth; veneers or laser bleaching can be used to ensure the teeth look their best and protect the new bare parts of the teeth, but veneers will also ensure that the new contoured gums have something to rest on. The treatment is also surprisingly inexpensive to have done so if you have problems with your ‘gummy’ smile, get it done and set your smile free for the first time in your life.
