Treating a ‘Gummy’ Smile in Central Leeds

Some people in central Leeds are blessed with having great teeth, others have to have corrective treatment in order to get great teeth. For some people however, they may have great teeth, yet are born with far too much gum that tends to make the teeth look very small indeed and greatly inhibit the smile. Sometimes the appearance of showing to much gum can be caused by a high lip line when smiling. In both cases, it can induce a lack of self-confidence into a person and reduce their ability to be outgoing, but help is at hand in both instances. Where there is too much gum giving that ‘gummy smile’, the gums can be reduced with surgery to show more of the teeth and make them appear a lot longer; the surgery is quite simple though the healing times vary between the treatment being carried out by a scalpel or by a laser- lasers do very little damage to the gums, hence heal faster. In some cases, the dentist may advocate the use of veneers to complete the smile. In the case of a high lip line, surgery can help to prevent the lips riding too high when smiling and by doing so, stops the lip from going any higher than the top of the teeth. Both are very simple procedures and the outcome very rewarding.
