Nasty Canker Sores in Central Leeds

Friday, November 15th, 2013

3062480_blogSome conditions in the mouth aren’t necessarily dangerous, yet they are never-the-less irritating in central Leeds and one spiteful little brute is the canker sore. What triggers these sores off is still a little bit of a mystery, but they are considered to be stress-related in some way and coupled with a pretty wild lifestyle as well, this can diminish your immune system and leave you vulnerable to outbreaks such as these. Sharp objects in the mouth from dentures, braces or even a chipped tooth can also set the canker ball rolling, as well as acids from certain foods. These sores don’t tend to hang around for long though- in general, just a few days or so, but they can be quite painful throughout….so what to do? Well for starters, you can try and avoid all of the above when one breaks out in your mouth; there are soothing gels such as BONJELLA that you can buy across the counter and that will take the heat out of the sore and relax it. However, though they may seem as just a nasty little irritant that come and go, they can indicate something more sinister going on if they stick around, so you should get along to your dentist for extra treatment.

Cancelling out Canker Sores in Central Leeds

Saturday, May 11th, 2013

Some things can be very painful when they erupt in the mouth and canker sores can be among the worst in central Leeds. Yet is one of those things that there is a lot of mystery about. It is very difficult to work out what causes them; stress, acidic foods and the sharpness from braces or a chipped tooth are considered to be among some of the causes, but you’ll know when you get one and they can appear anywhere in the mouth- you may also suffer from a fever as well as the pain. They don’t often stay around for long, but they do re-offend and whilst in the mouth, they can be difficult to treat. You can buy soothing gels designed for cankers and ulcer; rinsing with salt water and a medicated mouthwash will also help to soothe them but generally you have to wait it out before they go. However, there is a danger if they hang around or even start to spread in the mouth. If this should happen, you should seek help from your dentist as soon as you can.

Dealing with Canker Sores in Central Leeds

Tuesday, December 11th, 2012

There are many things sent to test you when you are growing up in central Leeds, especially in your mouth and as if you haven’t enough to deal with already, fighting decay, having fillings and wearing braces, along comes a canker sore. These are a derivative of a mouth ulcer but still as painful, and they have a habit of re-offending a couple of times a year. Stress and diet are considered to be among a few reasons as to why people suffer from them, though they can erupt if the gums are scratched in some way. If one erupts there is not a lot you can do about it; you can brush and floss more in order to remove food deposits, rinse with salt water and there are some gels available that help sooth the sores. They tend to be very, very irritating and stinging in their pain, but they will go away after a couple of days. However, if they are still with you after a few weeks, even start to spread, you must get help from your doctor or dentist as it could indicate something more sinister at work.

Canker Sores In Central Leeds

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

If you happen to get canker sores, you will know the pain and irritation they can cause, but where they come from and what causes them is still a bit of a mystery, claims a dentist in central Leeds. They tend to erupt inside the mouth- on the inside of the lips, gums and on the tongue and can be confused with toothache. Although not contagious, it is widely agreed that they are handed down in the family through generations and are more common in women. There are three main types of canker sores. The most common is the minor sore, which is small and lasts for around 8 days. The major sore is a lot larger and more painful and can hang around in the mouth for almost a month. Herpetiform ulcers appear in clusters and they also last around 8 days. They start as a gentle swelling but erupt quickly and because they are difficult to treat, they can cause great discomfort until they disappear. Though the causes of these sores are a bit of a grey area, they can be linked to the same reasons why other problems affect the mouth- vitamin deficiency, poor diet, stress, poor dental hygiene, a weak immune system, hormone imbalance (as in pregnancy), smoking and drinking. Treating them is also a grey area, there are canker related medications that tend to soothe rather than cure. As with cold sores, they seemingly come and go at there own leisure, but a dentist will be able to offer advice on treating them.
