Delightful Damon Braces!

Wednesday, September 14th, 2016

386703_blogAt City Dental, we are delighted to offer dazzling Damon Braces in the heart of London. Damon Braces are one of the world’s leading brace systems and this innovative treatment is capable of correcting even the most complex orthodontic issues and creating stunning, straight smiles.

What are Damon Braces and how do they work?

Damon is an advanced fixed brace treatment suited to patients with moderate or complex orthodontic issues. This treatment is an excellent alternative to traditional fixed braces for those looking for a discreet, comfortable and quick solution for a range of problems including overcrowding, underbite, overbite and gaps between the teeth.

Damon Braces are among the most advanced braces on the market. They feature sliding brackets, which are easy to clean, and fine, discreet memory wires. The components work together to generate powerful but gentle forces to move the teeth.

What are the benefits?

Damon Braces offer a number of benefits for patients of all ages. They are:

  • Speed: treatment times are around 4-6 months shorter than conventional fixed braces
  • Comfort: Damon Braces use friction-free technology to move the teeth, making them more comfortable than traditional braces
  • Discretion: Damon Braces are sleeker and finer than conventional fixed braces, making them much less visible
  • Improved oral health: Damon Braces have sliding brackets, which make cleaning easier. This helps to decrease the risk of decay and creates a simpler treatment process

In most cases, patients do not need to have teeth extracted prior to treatment, which is welcome news for the many people who suffer from nerves when faced with a trip to the dentist.

If Damon Braces sound appealing to you, now is the perfect time to give us a call.

The Incredible Inman Aligner

Wednesday, August 24th, 2016

18625044We are delighted to offer our patients a range of innovative orthodontic treatments, including the incredible Inman Aligner. If you have minor orthodontic issues and are searching for an effective, swift and comfortable treatment option, look no further than the Inman Aligner.

What is the Inman Aligner?

The Inman Aligner is a removable orthodontic appliance that exerts forces that squeeze the teeth, causing them to move in the right direction. The aligner slips into position over the teeth and is designed to be taken out when you eat and clean your teeth. Forces are generated by a coiled spring, located behind the front teeth and a thin metal bar, which can be seen running along the front of the teeth.

Who is a good candidate for Inman Aligner treatment?

Ideally, this treatment is suited to patients who have minor issues, such as crowding or crooked teeth, that involve the teeth at the front of the mouth. It is capable of achieving a small amount of movement in no time at all and presents a great option for those who need minor correction, as well as patients who have experienced relapse after previous treatment.

If you have complex issues that require a lot more movement, the Inman Aligner might not be the best choice for you. Once we have assessed your needs, we will be happy to go through treatment choices with you and help you to choose a more suitable option.

How long does treatment take?

If you’re in a hurry for results, have got a special date in mind or you simply can’t wait to show off your new smile, we have great news! This treatment is one of the fastest systems around, with an average treatment time of just 16 weeks. The exact time may vary slightly and your dentist will be able to give you an accurate prediction when you have your consultation.

How to Care for Braces

Saturday, March 26th, 2016

header_image4We would all love to have them. They do the power of good for the look of our teeth. Of course, the topic of discussion is braces.

Modern day braces are remarkably good. They literally straighten out any problems our wonky teeth might have had for quite some time. But, braces of any kind can be distressing to many people. They might not be aesthetically pleasing and the individual might be self-conscious on each occasion where they open their mouth, even to speak. No matter what your opinion is on braces itself, one of the most important aspects is looking after them so that they can fully help your teeth. This can be done in many ways.

Just like your mouth, cleaning a brace regularly throughout the day is very important. As the brace is positioned in your mouth for long periods of the day, the probability of bacteria building up in your mouth is very high. In order to stop a harmful spread of bacteria from entering your mouth, it is advised that you brush your brace with some toothpaste and a toothbrush every day just as you do with your own teeth. It is also a good idea for you to do this over a bowl of water so that if the brace does fall out of your hands it will not make your hard work pointless.

Soaking your brace is also a very good idea. By doing this, you will be able to clean your brace further, which conventional cleaning might not quite manage. But be that the water which you put your brace in is cold as hot water will distort the plastic and make them unusable. Asking your dentist about the right solution for your brace is a very good idea as well as they will have a wealth of knowledge that the internet might otherwise miss.

So, if you’re one of the countless number of people who do have braces then following these steps would be a very good move. Being kind to your brace means that you will help the performance of your teeth, as their potential for good will be maximised.

All About Braces!

Friday, January 8th, 2016

braces front teethBraces have been used to treat a range of different orthodontic problems for many years now and conventional metal braces are still used to address problems including overcrowding, gap between the teeth and poorly positioned teeth.

Many people think of traditional metal train-tracks when they hear the word brace, but braces have evolved considerably and there is now a whole host of different types of braces and orthodontic devices on the market.

Braces are usually associated with teenagers but recently there has been a significant increase in the number of adults visiting their dentist for orthodontic treatments. This is mainly due to the introduction of new, discreet treatments but is also associated with the rise of celebrity culture and the increased focus on image and beauty.

Although the conventional metal brace did enjoy something of a resurgence thanks to the Channel 4 series Ugly Betty, more discreet treatments have become much more popular. Now, the most popular treatments include Invisalign invisible braces, Damon Braces, Six Month Smile braces and the Inman Aligner.

Looking for a Leeds dentist? City Dental are here to help.

As well as being much more discreet than conventional metal braces, new orthodontic treatments also decrease treatment time and some treatments can produce amazing results in just a matter of weeks. Some treatments aren’t suitable for some people, the treatment you choose may depend on your budget but you will also be advised based on your orthodontic problems and your oral health status.

How Braces Have Become More Comfortable and Discreet

Thursday, November 26th, 2015

2445507_blogWhen you ask people about braces the same image pops into most heads: the bulky, metal ‘train-track’ braces that everyone used to have at school.

New types of brace

Fixed metal braces do still exist but the world of orthodontics has advanced at a rapid rate and new, innovative treatments are coming onto the market all the time. Times have changed so much that you can now choose between incredible treatments that work in weeks and invisible braces that nobody else can even see. Braces are now so discreet and comfortable that they have almost become a trend in themselves. Numerous celebrities have been snapped sporting examples of the new range of treatments, which include lingual braces, Invisalign and Clearstep and even the dreaded train-tracks enjoyed something of a revival after the television character Ugly Betty unknowingly made them cool!

Comfort as well as style

Braces used to be associated with pain. Everyone used to dread going to have their braces tightened because it would hurt and the thought of a seemingly never-ending series of trips to the orthodontist was never very appealing. However, discomfort is now becoming a thing of the past and many of the new braces have been specially designed to move the teeth quickly and comfortably. Most of the braces and orthodontic devices now are much lighter than traditional braces and they use state of the art technology to guide the teeth into the right position. Many have also banished the dreaded bands and therefore there is no need for tightening appointments.

The Top Choices for Adult Braces

Tuesday, November 24th, 2015

header_image4Times have moved on from the days when only children wore braces, which by the way, were likely to be made of metal and highly noticeable. Today’s modern braces are much more discreet and for the most part, can be used by patients of all ages.

As well as being clear, many braces are now removable, meaning greater flexibility and better oral hygiene. Picking from the multitude of braces and aligners on offer can be confusing, so here is a quick look at two of the most popular choices.

Invisalign

Invisalign uses clear aligners which gradually move your teeth into the desired position, without anyone noticing that you are wearing braces. The removable aligner is worn for 22 hours a day and an average of between 20 and 30 separate aligners or trays are used throughout the treatment.

Inman Aligner

The Inman Aligner is of the range of removable orthodontic appliances that have become a hit with many patients who are seeking comfortable and discreet methods of having their teeth straightened. It is an appliance whereby competing forces between a bar on one side of the teeth and a spring on the other work to move teeth into position. It is a very effective means of straightening teeth and one City of Leeds dentists are happy to offer patients.

Modern Braces Available in Leeds

Saturday, October 24th, 2015

386703_blogAdvancements in orthodontic and cosmetic dentistry have led to development of modern braces systems that have vastly improved on traditional metal. We have compared modern braces systems and offer our patients choices in customised Invisalign, Inman Aligner and STb Social 6 lingual braces systems. Each of these systems are unique in the treatment benefits they provide for teeth straightening and smile transformation.

The key advancements in modern braces systems include:

Advanced technologies for effective teeth straightening

Invisalign clear aligners are replaced every two weeks for staged re-positioning of teeth with ClinCheck. Dental overcrowding, irregular bite and dental spacing are treated with Invisalign. Inman Aligner comprises a metal bar and coil spring located behind the teeth, creating opposing orthodontic force for mild teeth straightening including relapse. STb Social 6 uses self-ligating lingual technology for improved movement and front teeth correction.

Invisible fitting for discreet orthodontic treatment

Invisalign systems are made of smooth, clear plastic aligners that fit over the mouth similar to a mouth shield. The coil in the Inman Aligner system is located behind the teeth while a single bar rests above the front teeth. The STb Social 6 braces are positioned behind the front teeth and are totally out of sight.

Removable options for better hygiene and convenience

Invisalign aligners and Inman Aligners are removable for adjustment, cleaning, meals and activities.  STb Social 6 brackets are fixed behind teeth and removable by a dentist. The self-ligating STb systems make oral hygiene easier.

Faster treatment times and smile transformation results

Invisalign aligners, including i7, are worn for about 21 to 23 hours a day, replaced every two weeks with results evident within 12 to 18 months. The Inman Aligner system straightens teeth within 6 to 16 weeks of commencing treatment, similar to the STb Social 6 Lingual system where results are evident within 16 weeks. How to Achieve Stunning Results with Braces

Saturday, October 10th, 2015

braces front teethHaving crooked or misaligned teeth can be damaging to your confidence and stop you from showing off your smile.  Your teeth might have been misaligned or crooked from birth or due to thumb-sucking or an accident.  These problems are easily solved by using braces that work with your teeth to correct misalignments with your bite and give you the perfect smile.

Can adults wear braces?

A common misconception is that braces must be fitted during childhood.  It is the optimum time for braces as children’s teeth are still developing and can be shaped easily, but braces are  suitable for adults too.  The length of treatment time with braces varies.  You might only need to wear them for six weeks but some people require them for as long as three years.  This is because braces can solve different problems such as widening your palate or jaw or giving you more space between your teeth.

Wearing braces

Your dentist will take moulds and x-rays of your teeth in order for the brace to fit perfectly with your mouth and correct whatever problems you have.  Brackets are attached to the teeth using an etchant for adhesive strength.  A wire is threaded through the brackets and this is used to adjust the position of your teeth at regular dental appointments.  Retainers are worn after the treatment is complete to make sure that your teeth and jaw don’t relapse into their former problematic positions.

How to Find the Right Brace

Friday, September 18th, 2015

braces front teethAt City Dental Leeds, we pride ourselves on offering a wide range of treatment and solutions for orthodontic, cosmetic and restorative issues. We are proud to be able to offer our clients many of the leading orthodontic treatments and we are always on the look out for new innovations to enable us to continue to deliver exceptional standards of care and incredible results.

There is a huge amount of choice available to patients with orthodontic issues nowadays and while this is generally considered to be a major advantage, we recognise that it can make choosing a treatment rather confusing and this is where we come in! Our expert dentists will be able to make recommendations to help you decide which brace is best. Sometimes, patients are desperate for a certain treatment, while many have no idea what to expect when they start thinking about orthodontic treatment; we are here to guide you through the process and ensure you get the smile you’ve always dreamed of at the end of it all.

Which factors do I need to consider when choosing a brace?

The main thing to think about when you’re choosing a brace is your orthodontic needs; some treatments will not be suitable for some patients. Some systems, such as the Inman Aligner and STb Social 6 braces, are ideally suited to patients with more minor issues and are therefore not ideal for patients who have complex needs, while others, including Incognito lingual braces, are geared towards those who need a lot of movement. Once your dentist has assessed your bite and determined your needs, they will be able to explain which treatments would best suit your individual orthodontic prescription.

Additional factors you may like to think about when choosing an orthodontic system include cost, treatment time and preferences; for example, some patients may prefer the flexibility of removable braces, while others prefer the security of fixed braces.
