You Could Have New Teeth in One Day!

Tuesday, October 4th, 2016

iStock_000001998629XSmallNo one likes dealing with missing or broken teeth and replacing a whole set is itself a whole set of nightmares. Dentures, the age old way of replacing groups of teeth, have a renowned history of problems:  slippage, clumsy speech and difficulty chewing, to name a few. Dental implants, however, operate just like normal teeth and now, with All-on-4 implants, you can have these magnificent tooth replacements fitted in a fraction of the time.

First up, what is a dental implant?

A dental implant is essentially a false tooth anchored to your jaw via a small metal rod. They can be detached, but will not slip or cause problems in the same way that dentures do. They operate just like normal teeth.

What is All-on-4?

Typically, replacing a whole set of teeth would require between six and ten implants to get the job done. With All-on-4 implants, as the name implies, only four implants are needed to replace the set.

What are the plus points of All-on-4 implants?

Well, firstly, the treatment is less invasive than conventional implant surgery and, also unlike conventional implants, there is less of a chance that bone grafting will be required. The design of All-on-4 implants works with existing bone structure and, in the case of areas lacking bone height, special implants can be used to compensate. It is also less time consuming; the new teeth can be fitted on the same day as the implants themselves, meaning you can get back to smiling the day you leave the dentist. There is also a quicker healing time for All-on-4 implants.

How does it work?

As with standard implant surgery, the two front implants are placed at a 90 degree angle. The clever bit, however, is that the two implants at the back are positioned at 45 degree angles! This nifty arrangement provides all the support and anchorage that a good set of implants need.

The Many Ways to Replace Missing Teeth

Wednesday, September 28th, 2016

2433646_sAt City Dental we offer many choices for missing teeth treatments. Teeth may be lost due to tooth decay, gum disease or oral trauma. Our aim is to do our best to preserve existing teeth, however dental extractions at times may be necessary.

Choices in missing teeth treatments

The missing teeth treatments we offer look and feel just like natural teeth. The three main artificial teeth replacements include:

Dental bridges

A dental bridge may be used to replace single or multiple missing teeth. Bridges may of alloys, gold or porcelain link or clasp the artificial teeth to neighbouring existing teeth or crowns. They can be supported by dental implants too, but more on them later!

There are three types of dental bridge: traditional, cantilever and Maryland. The type of bridge recommended depends on how many teeth are being replaced and the method of replacement.

Dentures

Dentures can replace one or more missing teeth on a dental arch, or complete sets of teeth on both dental arches. There are different types of custom-made dentures – partial, complete, acrylic nylon (or plastic), flexible and implant-supported.

Certain dentures are bonded to a metal or plastic plate and are easily removed for cleaning. As the gums shrink and change over time, dentures may need adjustment or to be secured with dental implants.

Dental implants

Dental implants are titanium posts that serve as missing tooth roots to which a dental restoration such as a crown, bridge or denture is anchored. Implant-supported dental prosthesis are becoming increasingly popular due to stability and control it gives for oral functions.

The ultimate goal of missing teeth replacements is to restore proper dental function, alignment, bite and facial volume for a confident and beautiful smile. If you would like treatment for your missing teeth please don’t hesitate to contact City Dental in the heart of Leeds.

Why We Use Osteocare Dental Implants

Saturday, February 14th, 2015

2433646_sDental implants have revolutionised tooth replacement treatment and they offer a range of attractive benefits for people of all ages. At City Dental Leeds, we are proud to use Osteocare dental implants.

About Osteocare dental implants

Osteocare dental implants are made in Britain and they offer reliability, durability and efficacy. These implants have a very high success rate of between 90 and 95 per cent, they are compatible with a range of restorations and they are built to last. Osteocare implants can also be used as same-day treatments in around 75 per cent of cases, as they can be placed in a minimally invasive procedure that doesn’t require the creation of a gum flap. As the procedure is less invasive than other implant treatments, the cost of treatment is also lower, offering you a cost-effective solution for missing teeth.

What’s so good about dental implants?

It’s no understatement to say that dental implants have taken the world by storm and this is largely due to the fact that they offer such an extensive range of benefits to patients of any age. Implants are currently the closest match to a natural tooth on the market and they also last a lot longer than bridges and dentures.

Dental implants are small prostheses, which are made from titanium. They are placed inside sockets in the jaw bone to take on the role of the tooth root. Once they are settled, the implants can be connected to a bridge, denture or crown and the smile will look incredible.

As well as providing longevity, implants also boast natural aesthetics, ease of use and simple maintenance and they provide optimum stability ready for the new restoration, which replaces the tooth crown. You look after implants in the same way as you would natural teeth, so you don’t need to worry about learning new cleaning regimes. Implants can also help to reduce bone loss.

If you think dental implants would  be the perfect solution for you, call now and book a consultation. Our expert dentists will be able to tell you more about the treatment, explain how it works and how it could benefit you and talk to you about other options open to you.
