Be Kind To Your Mouth And Replace Your Missing Teeth

Monday, November 3rd, 2014

2433646_sWhether you’ve lost a tooth through injury or as a result of dental disease, it’s beneficial to consider tooth replacement treatment. At City Dental we have a host of replacement methods available, including dentures, dental bridges and incredible implants.

Why is it important to replace missing teeth?

Missing teeth don’t just affect the look of the smile, they also have negative consequences for oral health and the function of the mouth. The teeth have a number of important roles and they enable to eat and grind up food before it enters the digestive system and form letters and sounds. The teeth also provide important structural support for your cheeks and replacing missing teeth will have a dramatic impact on the overall look of your face, as well as your smile. By replacing lost teeth, you will also reduce the risk of the remaining teeth slipping out of position.

About dental implants

Dental implants are an innovative solution to tooth loss. Implants are small screw-shaped devices, which are made from titanium; they are implanted into the jaw bone to take on the role of the tooth root. As titanium is biocompatible, it is possible for the implant to integrate into the bone tissue; this process is called osseointegration and it takes between 3 and 8 months.

Once the osseointegration is complete, the implant can be attached to a new restoration; this stage of treatment replaces the visible part of the tooth. Implants are compatible with bridges, dentures and crowns, so they can be used for patients of all ages with varying dental needs.

Implants are designed to last a lifetime and they provide the same level of functionality as natural teeth; they also help to reduce the risk of bone loss.

If you’d like to find out more about dental implants or explore options for tooth replacement treatment, call us or pop into the clinic when you’re next in town to arrange a consultation.

A new look with Dental Implants in the City of Leeds

Monday, December 30th, 2013

iStock_000001998629XSmallWhen tooth loss strikes, as it so regularly does in the city of Leeds, you’ll want to turn the situation around as quickly as you can for a number of reasons. When you do, you will want something that is going to last, be strong and give you a fresh start again, and you would be wise to consider looking at dental implants, for when they are in, they are in for life. These have been a revolution to overcoming tooth loss and can be used in all methods of repair. They can help stabilise dentures, anchor bridges or simply house a single crown, but they do reinstate an incredible amount of freedom to your mouth again, which is what you want to hear after losing a tooth or two. Laser surgery has freed up this once complex procedure and a small titanium rod can be put in quickly and rather painlessly, which also improves the healing process. Because it has become so easy to do, it means lots of dentists can do it, so this also means it has become affordable to all.

Dental Implants in the City of Leeds, a Secure Alternative to Your Own Teeth

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

As we progress through adulthood our teeth become subject to many damaging lifestyle habits, foods and infections that can result in discoloured, damaged or decaying teeth. If your teeth are a source of discomfort for you, either physically or due to their appearance, you can now replace them with dental implants.

Dental implants are a type of false teeth that are anchored to the jawbone via a titanium rod. They are the most secure form of false teeth you can find and can be used to fix dentures, crowns or bridges and can be fitted by your local dentist in the City of Leeds.

The process involves fitting the titanium rod into a hole that has been drilled by the dentist, this ensures the rod is located securely in the gum and over time it will actually fuse with the jawbone itself. Once the rods have been fitted, false teeth can be attached to the tip of the titanium, either through clipping or screwing. You will find that the teeth have little or no movement and are as strong as your own may have been.

In order to fix the implant your own teeth will need to be removed, this process may be painful but can be performed under local anaesthetic to numb the tooth and the surrounding area. Once the tooth has been removed, the implant can either be secured directly into the hole left by the tooth root, or can be fitted several weeks later when the wound has healed and another hole had been formed by your dentist.

In conclusion, if your teeth are weak and loose, dental implants will serve as a beneficial replacement. Your false teeth will feel secure and as strong as your own once felt and you will be able to smile with confidence once again.
