Replace Missing Teeth With Mini Dental Implants

Friday, December 26th, 2014

2797271_blogIf you’re searching for a tooth replacement treatment, which offers both reliability and innovation, mini dental implants could be the perfect choice.

What are mini dental implants?

Mini implants, as the name suggests, are miniature versions of traditional dental implants. Mini implants are easier to tolerate than larger implants and this often makes them a viable option for patients who may have been advised against traditional implants due to lack of bone density in the jaw bone.

Mini implants can also be attached to dentures to provide greater stability and they often prove a really effective solution for patients who have had trouble with ill-fitting dentures in the past. With implant-retained dentures, the dentures are supported by mini implants and this means that they are held firmly in place and cannot slip.

How are mini implants fitted?

The procedure to fit mini implants is less invasive than traditional implants and recovery time is quicker. We usually carry out the procedure under local anaesthetic, but we can also provide sedation for patients who feel nervous or apprehensive. We use a highly accurate, minimally-invasive technique to gently place the implants in sockets in the jaw bone. The head of the implants protrude through the gum tissue and can be attached to a new restoration, such as a denture.

Treatment usually involves a single procedure and you can enjoy the benefits straightaway, rather than having to wait for months like you do with most traditional implant systems. After the implants have been fitted, they can be attached to the denture immediately and you can enjoy your new smile, as well as eating and speaking with ease and confidence.

If you’d like to find out more about mini dental implants or you’re keen to book a consultation, bob in when you’re next in Leeds or simply give us a call. Your City Dental dentist will be able to talk you through the process, highlight the pros and cons and carry out test to check your suitability for treatment.

What Are Osteocare Dental Implants In The Heart Of Leeds?

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2014

iStock_000001998629XSmallOsteoCare™ Implant System Ltd. is one of the world leaders when it comes to dental implantology and biotechnology. After being founded in 1999, the company has grown over the years to become top of its game in restoring missing teeth and stabilising loose dentures.

Why we use them

Osteocare boasts an impressive success rate as well as a number of benefits over competing dental implant systems. These include a simple and painless procedure, as unlike many other techniques the osteocare implants don’t require a flap of gum to be created in order to carry out the process. This reduces any after surgery complications to an absolute minimum. Another advantage of choosing osteocare dental implants is how much money you’ll save, as these implants are priced at half the amount of others on the market, making them extremely cost effective. This is down to the simplistic nature of the treatment and how little surgery time is required.

One of the features that makes the osteocare implants such a popular choice with patients is the ‘same day teeth’ design. In 75% of cases the implant can be immediately loaded with an aesthetically pleasing temporary crown, or in the instance of dentures, we can fit the denture onto the new implant right after you have surgery, making the process extremely convenient for clients. Dental implants also have a very high success rate of 90 to 95%, so patients can feel confident in their choice of treatment.

The Importance Of Replacing Missing Teeth In The City Of Leeds

Monday, December 1st, 2014

2433646_sAt City Dental Leeds our highly experienced surgeons are here to cater for patients who require treatment for missing teeth. When teeth are lost it is vital to replace them as soon as possible in order to minimise the stress that is placed on surrounding teeth, as these have to work harder to chew food. We are here to help you restore a beautiful smile as quickly as possible with the use of dental implants and techniques such as bone grafting.

What is a dental implant?

Dental implants are made from a titanium alloy and are fixed into your jawbone to replace the root of your tooth while supporting crowns or dentures. The procedure is painless and takes place under local anaesthetic. During the process a hole is made in your jawbone to perfectly accommodate the implant, then the implant is left to heal for up to 6 months. We provide you with temporary teeth during this time while the process of osseointegration – bone tissue growing around the implant – takes place. The procedure usually takes between 1-2 hours per implant and you may need a couple of days off work following your visit.

What is bone grafting?

For implant placement to be successful there needs to be a sufficient quantity of bone in the area, however in some patients this just isn’t the case, often because of how gums have healed following tooth extraction. To increase the amount of bone available simple grafting procedures are carried out using either endogenous bone or artificial substitutes. These techniques usually take place at the same time as implant placement.

Why choose implants?

In comparison to conventional methods such as dentures and bridges, dental implants offer better support, result in much more comfort and even help to slow down and prevent jawbone shrinkage. The success rate is high – between 90-95% – and if looked after properly dental implants can last forever. Despite coming at a higher cost than conventional treatments, they are definitely a worthwhile investment.

We Offer A Range Of Treatments For Damaged Or Broken Teeth

Sunday, November 23rd, 2014

585986_blogDental injuries, accidents and daily wear and tear can all take their toll on your teeth, but if you need restorative treatment or a replacement for a missing tooth, you’ve come to the right place. We cat patch up worn, chipped or broken teeth or find the perfect tooth replacement treatment for a missing tooth in no time.

Treatments for damaged and broken teeth

We have an array of restorative treatments available to cater for all your dental needs. Whether you’ve chipped a tooth on a humbug, you’ve broken your tooth playing sport or you’ve lost a tooth in an accident, we have the best solutions out there and we will have you smiling with confidence before you know it.

For chipped teeth, there are various options. Veneers are a popular choice for anyone who is looking for a glamorous smile, while composite bonding is a great treatment for those who are looking for a simple, quick and affordable fix. This treatment involves using dental composite, the material used for white fillings, to fill in chips, add more height to worn surfaces and make weakened teeth stronger. The procedure takes an hour, there’s no pain involved and you can enjoy the benefits immediately. If your tooth is weak as a result of a cavity, we can fill the tooth to make it stronger; treatment takes less than an hour and we use local anaesthetic to prevent discomfort.

If your tooth is broken and the damage is too extensive for a filling or bonding, we may recommend an inlay or onlay or a crown. Inlays and onlays are usually referred to as the middle ground between fillings and crowns and they are colour matched for a flawless finish. Crowns are used very commonly for broken teeth and they can also be used to strengthen infected and decayed teeth. Crowns are positioned over the top of the tooth to make it stronger; they are made from various materials, including ceramics, such as porcelain, so they can blend in with the natural teeth.

Treatments for missing teeth

We also offer dentures, dental bridges and dental implants for patients with missing teeth. Call us today if you’re in need of restorative work and we can help you decide which is the best solution for you.

Stable? Long Lasting? Natural Looking? That’s A Dental Implant!

Wednesday, September 17th, 2014

297243_blogIf you’re looking for a stable, long-term and amazingly natural tooth replacement, look no further than a dental implant. This relatively new treatment has taken the world by storm and you could be the next patient to enjoy the many benefits it offers.

The ins and outs of dental implants

Dental implants are a really effective, long-lasting treatment for missing teeth. Implants are designed to act as a substitute for the root section of the missing tooth and they are secure into sockets in the jaw bone in a similar way to natural roots. Implants are made from titanium, a biocompatible material, which means that they are able to integrate into the bone; this ensures maximum security and stability for the implant and the new restoration.

Once an implant has integrated, it can then be attached to a new restoration; this stage of the treatment process replaces the crown section of the tooth, which is the visible part of the tooth. Implants are compatible with a range of different restorative options, including a dental bridge, a crown or a denture. Once the restoration is attached, the tooth or teeth will look the same as natural teeth and you can enjoy amazing levels of functionality.

The benefits of dental implant treatment

Dental implant treatment offers a host of advantages. As implants are compatible with different types of restoration, this means that they are suitable for most patients, whether you’re an 18 year old who has lost a tooth playing rugby, or an older person who is hoping to replace a full arch of lost teeth. Implants last a lifetime and they give you the same level of functionality as natural teeth. The process of integration takes place without any pain or interference with the surrounding teeth and once they are in place, implants are very easy to care for.

Leeds Dental Implants Provide Titanic Support

Tuesday, August 26th, 2014

18625013Dental implants have changed the face of dentistry, but what’s all the fuss about and could implants benefit you?

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are the newest kid on the block in the world of tooth replacement treatment. These small titanium screw-like devices have had a major impact on modern dentistry and they have already helped thousands of patients all over the world to enjoy amazing new smiles.

Implants are designed to integrate into the jaw bone tissue and they are compatible with a range of different restorations, which makes them a viable treatment option for almost all patients with missing teeth. The implant is fixed into a pre-drilled hole in the bone and then left to integrate; this process takes several months and once it is complete, the new restoration is attached to replace the visible part of the tooth. While the crown, denture or dental bridge replaces the original crown, the implant takes on the roles and responsibilities of the tooth root.

Could dental implants benefit me?

Dental implants have benefits for most patients with missing teeth, whether you have one missing tooth or a full arch of missing teeth. As they are compatible with bridges, dentures and crowns, they are suitable for patients of all ages with varying needs.

Implants are a long-term treatment and they last much longer than dentures and dental bridges; they are also the closest prosthesis to a natural tooth, providing excellent aesthetics and allowing you to do everything you could do if you had a full set of natural teeth. Implants can also help to reduce bone loss.

How To Save A Tooth In A Dental Emergency

Monday, August 25th, 2014

1788888_blogIf you’re involved in an accident, you suffer a fall or you’re playing contact sport and you lose a tooth, it may be possible to save the tooth. Losing a tooth can be distressing, especially if it’s a front tooth, which is highly visible when you smile, but if you can see a dentist quickly enough, they may be able to salvage and re-implant the tooth. Here are some tips if your tooth is dislodged and you need urgent dental treatment:

Locate the tooth

If you have a tooth knocked out, try to find it as quickly as possible; time is limited in terms of being able to save the tooth so locate it and then call us as quickly as possible so that we can prepare for your arrival.

Clean the tooth

Clean the tooth as best you can by gently wiping it, taking care to hold the crown part of the tooth and avoid touching the roots.

Place the tooth somewhere safe and moist

Ideally, if you can get hold of one, it’s best to place your tooth in a glass of milk, but if you can’t do this, we recommend placing the tooth inside your mouth and holding it between the inside of your cheek and your gums. This advice is not relevant for children, as there is a choking risk.

Hurry to the dentist

Make your way to the dentist as quickly as possible! Your dentist will then do their best to re-implant the tooth into its socket.

If it is not possible to save the tooth, there’s no need to panic, as we are able to offer some amazing tooth replacement treatments, including dental bridges and dental implants. We strongly recommend taking preventative measures to reduce the risk of losing teeth, including wearing a mouth guard for contact sport and wearing a seatbelt at all times when travelling by car.

You’ll Be Loving Your LS1 Versatile Oral Implants

Sunday, July 27th, 2014

iStock_000001998629XSmallThey often say that you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone and many of us take our teeth for granted. When you lose a tooth, it can be really distressing, not just because it becomes more difficult to eat, but also because it completely alters the aesthetic of your smile. With dental implants, we can offer the closest replacement for a natural tooth and we promise to have you smiling again.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are the latest innovation in the world of tooth replacement and they have already revolutionised the lives of hundreds of patients all over the UK. Implants are designed to take on the roles and responsibilities of the root of the missing tooth and like roots, they are implanted into the jaw bone. Implants are made from titanium, which is bio-compatible and this means that they are able to integrate into the bone tissue. This process is called osseointegration and it takes around 3-8 months.

Dental implants are an option for most patients because they fit with different types of restoration, which means that you can benefit from treatment if you have 1, 5 or 15 missing teeth. Once the implant has healed, it can then be connected to a dental bridge, a crown or a denture and you can enjoy a beautiful, beaming smile once again.

Implants last for many years and they represent an amazing option for patients who want a long-term treatment option, which promises great aesthetics, incredible tooth function and easy maintenance.

Building Bridges And Better Smiles In The Heart Of Leeds

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2014

4207449_blogIf you have a missing tooth or your tooth is severely decayed and you’ve been advised to consider extraction, there’s no need to panic. We understand that it can be distressing to think of your smile without a tooth, but we have the best tooth replacement treatments available and we can soon restore your smile to its former glory.

Dental bridges are a quick, simple and affordable means of restoring the look of your smile and enhancing oral function. They last for 10-15 years and you look after them in the same way as your natural teeth.

About dental bridges

Dental bridges are a form of prosthesis, which are used to replace missing teeth. There are three main types of dental bridge: the traditional fixed bridge, the cantilever bridge and the resin-bonded bridge (also known as a Maryland bridge). The most commonly used bridge is the traditional fixed bridge, which is a versatile tooth replacement that is made from a false tooth, which is anchored in place by two neighbouring crowns. Bridges are custom-made for each individual patient and they are available in different materials, including porcelain, for a natural, healthy looking aesthetic.

Is a dental bridge the best option for me?

Dental bridges are an excellent option for people who are looking for a quick, painless and simple solution to a missing tooth. Bridges cost much less than dental implants and they can be fitted in two appointments, usually two weeks apart. Implants last much longer, but they are more expensive and treatment takes several months. If you have missing teeth and you are not sure which treatment to go for, we can help! During your consultation, we will be happy to go through the different option with you and make recommendations based on your needs and your treatment aims and expectations.

What is a smile makeover and how does it work?

A smile makeover is made up of a series of different dental treatments and the aim is to create a perfect new smile. Often, the treatment list will include a mixture of cosmetic and restorative treatments and we also offer cosmetic braces to resolve issues including crooked, crowded and teeth and gaps in the smile.

Our most popular treatments include tooth whitening, porcelain veneers, cosmetic bonding, white fillings, porcelain crowns, cosmetic braces, dental bridges and dental implants.

We consult with you during the planning stage to assess your needs and see which treatments would benefit you; we take a number of factors into consideration, including the flaws you identify and want to improve and the ideas you have about the perfect smile. We understand that patients have different opinions and every smile makeover we do is different. We will also consider the time frame of treatment and also the cost. Once we have chosen the treatments together, we will plan your treatment and start the process of making your smile perfect!

How long does treatment take?

As every smile makeover is different, it’s impossible to say how long treatment will take. This is because the treatment time for different procedures and techniques varies hugely. Some treatments, including fillings, crowns and cosmetic bonding, take less than an hour, while orthodontic treatments and dental implant treatment can take several months. Once we know which treatments you will be having, we can give you a much better idea of when to expect the finished article.
