About dental implants

Dental implants are the latest tooth replacement treatment on the market; they are designed to take on the responsibilities of the tooth root and they are compatible with a range of restorations, so they can be used to treat patients of all ages with varying dental needs.

Implants are made from titanium and they resemble small screws; the implant is secured into a socket in the jaw bone and once it has integrated into the bone tissue, the head of the implant is then attached to the restoration. Implants are compatible with bridges, dentures and crowns, so you can benefit if you have just one, a few or multiple missing teeth. The integration process, which ensures maximum stability for the new tooth, is known as osseointegration and it usually takes 3-6 months.

Once the restoration has been joined to the implant, your smile will look completely natural and your new teeth will function in the same way as healthy natural teeth. You can eat and enjoy a diverse range of foods, your speech will be clear and you can enjoy enhanced facial aesthetics, as the new teeth will provide additional support for your cheeks and lips.

As well as restoring the beauty of the smile and functionality of the mouth, dental implants can also help to reduce bone loss and they offer a long-term alternative to dentures and dental bridges.

If you have missing teeth and you like the sound of dental implants, call us now to find out more and see if you are a good candidate for treatment.

The Importance Of Replacing Missing Teeth In The City Of Leeds

Monday, December 1st, 2014

2433646_sAt City Dental Leeds our highly experienced surgeons are here to cater for patients who require treatment for missing teeth. When teeth are lost it is vital to replace them as soon as possible in order to minimise the stress that is placed on surrounding teeth, as these have to work harder to chew food. We are here to help you restore a beautiful smile as quickly as possible with the use of dental implants and techniques such as bone grafting.

What is a dental implant?

Dental implants are made from a titanium alloy and are fixed into your jawbone to replace the root of your tooth while supporting crowns or dentures. The procedure is painless and takes place under local anaesthetic. During the process a hole is made in your jawbone to perfectly accommodate the implant, then the implant is left to heal for up to 6 months. We provide you with temporary teeth during this time while the process of osseointegration – bone tissue growing around the implant – takes place. The procedure usually takes between 1-2 hours per implant and you may need a couple of days off work following your visit.

What is bone grafting?

For implant placement to be successful there needs to be a sufficient quantity of bone in the area, however in some patients this just isn’t the case, often because of how gums have healed following tooth extraction. To increase the amount of bone available simple grafting procedures are carried out using either endogenous bone or artificial substitutes. These techniques usually take place at the same time as implant placement.

Why choose implants?

In comparison to conventional methods such as dentures and bridges, dental implants offer better support, result in much more comfort and even help to slow down and prevent jawbone shrinkage. The success rate is high – between 90-95% – and if looked after properly dental implants can last forever. Despite coming at a higher cost than conventional treatments, they are definitely a worthwhile investment.

Let Us Introduce The Mini Dental Implant System In Central Leeds

Wednesday, November 26th, 2014

2797271_blogWe’re very happy to offer our patients mini dental implants in the heart of Leeds. These innovative appliances really are testament to the belief that good things come in small packages!

About mini dental implants

Mini dental implants are as the name suggests, mini in terms of size.; they are made from titanium and they are used to replace the root of a missing tooth. Mini implants are often recommended when there is insufficient bone mass to support a larger implant; mini implants are also commonly used to support a denture and they provide amazing levels of stability.

How are mini dental implants fitted?

Having mini implants fitted is less invasive than traditional implant treatment and there is nothing to worry about; we simply place the mini implants into sockets in the jaw bone using a specialist minimally invasive technique. Usually, implant treatment requires months of healing; however, with mini implants, this is not the case, as the implants can be fitted without creating an incision in the gums. The head of the implant remains exposed and we are able to attach the denture shortly afterwards.

Why choose mini dental implants?

Mini implants offer many of the same benefits as traditional implants; both treatments last a very long time, both provide amazing aesthetics and exceptional levels of stability and functionality and both are easy to maintain. The procedure to fit mini implants is les invasive and this means that healing is quicker; the process is also less daunting for patients who suffer from anxiety.

Implants help to solve many of the issues commonly raised by patients with dentures. With implants in place to secure and support the denture, there is no risk of a denture slipping, the denture will feel more stable and you can enjoy increased bite power and improved speech. Implants also help to improve the overall facial aesthetic, as well as the look of the smile, as they provide greater support for the cheeks and lips to create more definition.

Dental implants in the centre of Leeds

2607696_blogLosing a tooth can be really distressing, especially if it is a front tooth. Missing teeth have an obvious impact on the look of the smile, but they can also contribute to issues related to your oral health, confidence and the way you carry out day to day activities, such as chewing your food. Thankfully, there are some really impressive tooth replacement treatments available now, including dental implants. Dental implants are the closest thing to natural teeth available at the moment; they are designed to replace the root of the missing tooth and are made to integrate fully into the actual jaw tissue, so that they can perform all the functions of a natural tooth. Implants are a life-changing treatment for patients of all ages, from those who have a single missing tooth as a result of an injury or accident, to those who have a large number of missing teeth. Once the implant has healed, it is then attached to a restoration; there are various options on offer to cater for patients with any number of missing teeth and once the crown, denture or bridge is in place, the smile will look amazing and full function will be restored to the mouth. Implants are not the cheapest option on offer, but they last much longer than the alternatives and they provide many benefits, from improved tooth function to amazing, natural looking smiles. Implant treatment usually takes several months, as it takes time for the implant to integrate into the jaw bone; however, there are other options available for those who are looking for instant results, such as the All-on-4 system.

Getting a good Crown in Central Leeds

Saturday, November 30th, 2013

18625044Whenever you have suffered from the problem of tooth loss or severe tooth decay in central Leeds, it is vital that you repair the damage done; this is not just to maintain the quality of your smile, more importantly, it is key to continuing the future health of your mouth; in these situations, dental crowns are going to help you overcome such problems. With tooth loss, crowns can be fitted to implants or used in conjunction with dental bridges; with tooth decay, they can help to restore the tooth back to its normal size again. In either case, getting your mouth restored will help to maintain the ‘bite’ of your mouth and protect the jaw-joints. The crown that is fitted will depend on the work required of it; strong crowns are generally manufactured from gold or porcelain-over-metal, as these can withstand a lot of stress, especially at the back of the mouth. However, if the damage has occurred at the front of the mouth, a full porcelain crown will suffice, and porcelain will look more natural to the aura you give off when you smile, although gold is sometimes used here too, as it portrays a certain bit of glitz and for some people, makes a statement.

What to do when Teeth go missing in Central Leeds

Saturday, November 2nd, 2013

4652780_blogIt can be an awful moment in your life if some of your teeth go missing in central Leeds: there are a few ways in which this can happen. You can lose a tooth or two through injury, bad decay and gum disease, but if you want to nip this in the bud and stop it from happening to the rest of your teeth, it is vital that you seal up the gaps as quickly as possible. Partial dentures are the cheapest and easiest method to choose in order to plug up the holes, and look very natural once they are in place- but then, so do the other methods on offer. Dental bridges have been with us for years and again, work brilliantly for overcoming tooth-loss. However, one of the greatest assets to dealing with a gap in the smile is the dental implant; not only can it be used to support dentures and bridges it has a stand alone quality of its own. One of these screwed into the jawbone is strong and can house individual crowns that will perfectly mirror that missing tooth/teeth. What you choose depends on how and where the problem has occurred but this will also be down to what your dentist thinks is best for you.

Dental Implants- better than your Teeth in the City of Leeds

Tuesday, October 29th, 2013

Happy buddies laughingThere can be no doubt about the way modern dental implant treatment has taken the world of tooth-loss by storm; it has never been easier to do, thanks largely to huge leaps in technology over the past 30 years, which makes this once difficult procedure as easy as any other you may have done at your dentists in the city of Leeds. In barely 2 hours, a laser will have made the pin-point incision through your gum and into the jawbone after which, the small titanium root is screwed into place. There are many benefits to going down this route; implants are very strong and once in, life-long friends. They are very resistant to infection and will give and incredible amount of support to any new fitting that is attached to them. For these reasons alone, they are often considered to be more reliable than the original root and tooth that has been lost; not that this is a reason you should go out and lose more teeth, but it is testament to just how good dental implants have become.

How a little Dental Implant can restore your smile again in Central Leeds

Monday, October 14th, 2013

iStock_000001998629XSmallOf all of the ways to overcome the problem of tooth loss in central Leeds, you couldn’t find any better than having a dental implant fitted in order to restore the health and look to your mouth. This is a routine operation these days; all it takes is to have a laser burn a small hole through the gums and then into the jawbone. This isn’t as harsh as it sounds and because it is so quick, the implant can be screwed in after seconds of the hole being made. Recovery will be quick and once this little ‘root’ is in place, it will offer great anchorage to any fitting that is attached to it- dentures, bridges or crowns. The thing about an implant is that it is very strong and robust, free of infection once it has settled down and once it is in place, it will be helping out with your problem of tooth-loss for the rest of your life. To put your mind at rest about this treatment though, and what cost is involved, you need to sit down and talk it through- preferably with your dentist. The more you learn, the more your mind will be put at rest when it comes to having this procedure done.

Embracing the world of Dentures in Central Leeds

Sunday, August 11th, 2013

iStock_000001998629XSmallNow if you were to be honest, the thought of wearing dentures after tooth loss may not appeal to you; but you may not have an option if you want to maintain your future oral health in central Leeds because you will be saving wear and tear to your jaws. But before you dismiss the idea altogether, you should sit down and do some research into modern dentures and how they work. Things have changed so much with the design of dentures, the materials they are made from, the cements that are used, mini-implants- all have helped to stabilise them in the mouth far better than ever before, and with comfort in mind. Another bonus to dentures, especially partial ones is that they are easy to manage and maintain, as well as being a cheaper alternative to other ways of getting over tooth loss. Losing teeth will always be traumatising, but you don’t need to be fearful of wearing dentures, in fact, you should embrace them because once you have looked into the option, you may be pleasantly surprised by what you discover.
