A Dental Bridge Solution Could Be Just What You Wished For

Saturday, August 30th, 2014

4756357_blogHave you been struggling with a missing tooth for a while? Have you recently had an accident or lost a tooth and are wondering what to do about it? If you have missing teeth, we can help! Our dental bridges are a fast, effective and simple solution for lost teeth.

What is a dental bridge?

A dental bridge is a very popular treatment for missing teeth. The aim of this treatment is to bridge the dental gap between two teeth when a tooth has been lost. The most common kind of dental bridge is a fixed dental bridge, which consists of a false tooth, which is stuck in place by a dental crown on each adjacent side, but it is also possible to get a bridge to replace a tooth with healthy teeth on one side of the gap only; this is known as a cantilever bridge and the bridge is anchored by a crown or two crowns on one side.

Dental bridges are custom-made with the process speedy and completely hassle-free. Once the impression of the teeth has been created, it is sent away and the bridge is crafted by amazing dental technicians. Once it’s ready, it can then be fitted and secured firmly into place.

How long does a bridge last?

Bridges are not a permanent solution, but they do last for a long time. If you care for your bridge well, it should last around 10-15 years.

What are dental bridges made from?

Dental bridges, like crowns, can be made from a variety of different materials. We find that ceramic bridges are very fashionable because they match up with the natural teeth and you can’t tell the difference between the false tooth and the natural teeth. It is also possible to make bridges from precious metals, including gold.

Clear And Simple Straight Smiles With Invisalign Here At City Centre Leeds

Friday, August 29th, 2014

3492515_blogWe understand that our orthodontic patients want simple, discreet treatments and we are able to offer an array of options, which straighten the teeth quickly and with minimal fuss. One of our most popular systems is Invisalign, a clear aligner treatment, which will give you the smile of your dreams with no pain and amazing, virtually invisible aesthetics.

About Invisalign

Invisalign is a really exciting alternative to traditional orthodontic treatments, as it offers complete discretion, convenience and discretion. This system uses a series of appliances, known as aligners, to move the teeth and create beautiful, straight smiles. Each patient is presented with a set of aligners, each one slightly different, which are worn for 2 weeks in a set order. The aligners are light, they don’t contain any metal parts and they are clear, so they can barely be seen when you smile.

Invisalign is a versatile treatment, which has benefits for most patients with minor or moderate orthodontic problems. For decades, patients have been longing for a treatment, which is capable of transforming the smile without having a negative impact on looks or confidence and now we have Invisalign! The solution to all your brace-related worries!

Is Invisalign for me?

Invisalign sounds amazing to many patients, especially those who have been worrying about how braces will affect their looks and the way they feel and it is a really great solution for a large number of patients. Invisalign produces excellent results, but it may not always be the best solution, as removable braces are often not as effective as fixed braces in cases where patients need a lot of movement and support. Your City Dental dentist will be able to ascertain if you are a good candidate for Invisalign treatment when you come for your consultation. We can also discuss other options and of course, we will be able to answer any questions you have.

Don’t Take It For Granted. Get Checked For Oral Cancer Quickly

Thursday, August 28th, 2014

863081_blogLike many forms of cancer, oral cancer can progress very quickly and we actively promote screening and regular dental checks to ensure that cases are diagnosed at the earliest possible stage. With early diagnosis, the chances of survival are much higher.

About oral cancer

Oral cancer is a form of cancer, which is found in the soft tissue in the mouth and throat. Research shows that this form of cancer is becoming increasingly prevalent in the UK, with an increase of almost 50% in the last decade alone. Projections also predict that this trend will continue. More than 6,000 new cases were diagnosed last year.

The major risk factors for oral cancer include drinking alcohol on a regular basis, smoking and HPV (human papilloma virus) infection. If you have more than one risk factor, you are more likely to develop oral cancer. Smokers who also drink, for example, are up to 30 times more likely to get oral cancer than non-smokers who drink infrequently.

Oral cancer detection

Sadly, at the moment, most cases of oral cancer are diagnosed when the disease has already progressed and survival rates have stalled. With early diagnosis, we can help to improve survival rates, as there is a much lower risk of cancer spreading when the disease at spotted at a very early stage.

The main symptoms to look for include slow-healing ulcers, red/white patches in the mouth and swelling in the throat, which may make it difficult to swallow. Some patients also have a persistent sore throat.

Screening

We promote oral cancer screening, which helps us to detect changes in the oral tissue before they become visible to the naked eye and we also check for potential warning signs during routine check-ups.

Afraid Of Pain? City Leeds Are Here To Help

Wednesday, August 27th, 2014

4361359_blogDo you dread going to the dentist? Are you afraid of needles, injections or dental pain? At City Dental Leeds, we are experts in providing pain-free dental care for nervous patients and we always go the extra mile to help patients to overcome their fears and feel more comfortable in the dental chair. If you’ve got a fear of pain, we can help!

Treatment for nervous patients at City Dental Leeds

One of the main causes of dental fear is a phobia of pain and fears of needles and injections. At City Dental Leeds, we can help to deliver first class standards of care with minimal discomfort and we do everything we can to make sure that injections are completely pain-free.

We offer sedation for anxious patients and this can really make a difference. With sedation, patients feel more comfortable in the run-up to treatment because they know that they’re not going to feel any pain and they also feel relaxed during treatment due to the effects of the sedative medication. Sedation doesn’t carry the same risks as general anaesthetic because you don’t lose consciousness at all.

For patients with a fear of needles, we are able to offer oral and inhalation sedation, as well as intravenous sedation; this means that you can be sedated without any worries about having an injection. With oral sedation, you take a tablet, while you inhale sedative through a mask with inhalation sedation.

If you’re a nervous patient or you have worries about pain as a result of a phobia of pain or negative experiences in the past, we will endeavour to help you and feel more confident when it comes to going to the dentist. We have a very friendly and caring team and we will do everything we can to ensure you don’t feel any pain during your time with us.

Leeds Dental Implants Provide Titanic Support

Tuesday, August 26th, 2014

18625013Dental implants have changed the face of dentistry, but what’s all the fuss about and could implants benefit you?

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are the newest kid on the block in the world of tooth replacement treatment. These small titanium screw-like devices have had a major impact on modern dentistry and they have already helped thousands of patients all over the world to enjoy amazing new smiles.

Implants are designed to integrate into the jaw bone tissue and they are compatible with a range of different restorations, which makes them a viable treatment option for almost all patients with missing teeth. The implant is fixed into a pre-drilled hole in the bone and then left to integrate; this process takes several months and once it is complete, the new restoration is attached to replace the visible part of the tooth. While the crown, denture or dental bridge replaces the original crown, the implant takes on the roles and responsibilities of the tooth root.

Could dental implants benefit me?

Dental implants have benefits for most patients with missing teeth, whether you have one missing tooth or a full arch of missing teeth. As they are compatible with bridges, dentures and crowns, they are suitable for patients of all ages with varying needs.

Implants are a long-term treatment and they last much longer than dentures and dental bridges; they are also the closest prosthesis to a natural tooth, providing excellent aesthetics and allowing you to do everything you could do if you had a full set of natural teeth. Implants can also help to reduce bone loss.

How To Save A Tooth In A Dental Emergency

Monday, August 25th, 2014

1788888_blogIf you’re involved in an accident, you suffer a fall or you’re playing contact sport and you lose a tooth, it may be possible to save the tooth. Losing a tooth can be distressing, especially if it’s a front tooth, which is highly visible when you smile, but if you can see a dentist quickly enough, they may be able to salvage and re-implant the tooth. Here are some tips if your tooth is dislodged and you need urgent dental treatment:

Locate the tooth

If you have a tooth knocked out, try to find it as quickly as possible; time is limited in terms of being able to save the tooth so locate it and then call us as quickly as possible so that we can prepare for your arrival.

Clean the tooth

Clean the tooth as best you can by gently wiping it, taking care to hold the crown part of the tooth and avoid touching the roots.

Place the tooth somewhere safe and moist

Ideally, if you can get hold of one, it’s best to place your tooth in a glass of milk, but if you can’t do this, we recommend placing the tooth inside your mouth and holding it between the inside of your cheek and your gums. This advice is not relevant for children, as there is a choking risk.

Hurry to the dentist

Make your way to the dentist as quickly as possible! Your dentist will then do their best to re-implant the tooth into its socket.

If it is not possible to save the tooth, there’s no need to panic, as we are able to offer some amazing tooth replacement treatments, including dental bridges and dental implants. We strongly recommend taking preventative measures to reduce the risk of losing teeth, including wearing a mouth guard for contact sport and wearing a seatbelt at all times when travelling by car.

Don’t Let The Horror Of Halitosis Take You In Its Clutches

Saturday, August 23rd, 2014

2143132_blogDo you feel self-conscious when you stand up to present at work or meet somebody for the first time? Are you conscious that you have bad breath but you don’t know what to do about it? At City Dental Leeds we have experience in treating bad breath and our excellent dentists and dental hygienists will soon have you feeling confident and smelling fresh.

What causes halitosis?

Halitosis is the medical name for bad breath. Most people have experience of bad breath in the morning or after eating particularly strong foods, but if you suffer from odorous breath on a regular basis, there may be an underlying cause. In most cases, bad breath is linked to bacteria collecting in the mouth, which results from poor oral hygiene. If you don’t brush your teeth twice a day and floss, bacteria are allowed to gather and collect in the mouth and reproduce and this causes unpleasant odours, as they release gases when they feed.

Smoking and taking medication can also contribute to bad breath.

How we can help

Bad breath doesn’t need to set you back; with our powerful cleaning treatments and professional advice, we can help you to overcome these problems and enable you to face day to day life with confidence.

The best course of action for bad breath is usually regular hygiene sessions, which are provided by our incredible dental hygienists. Hygienists offer cleaning treatments, which are designed to blitz the mouth and rid bacteria, leaving your mouth feeling lovely and clean and your teeth looking sparkly and smooth.

We can also offer advice about brushing and flossing at home and we are on hand to make recommendations about oral hygiene products.

Incredible Discreet Dentistry With The Inman Aligner

Friday, August 22nd, 2014

3943593_blogDiscretion is a buzz word when it comes to orthodontics because many people want to have treatment without the worry of it impacting on their looks. Braces are not the most attractive accessory, but we are able to offer discreet treatment systems to straighten your teeth with minimal impact on the look of the smile. One of our most popular and exciting treatments is the Inman Aligner.

The Inman Aligner represents a discreet, rapid alternative to traditional fixed braces for patients who have minor issues with the front teeth. This removable appliance is capable of straightening the teeth in a matter of weeks and the best thing is that the brace is barely visible to other people.

What exactly is the Inman Aligner?

The Inman Aligner is a removable aligner, which consists of a coiled spring and a metal bar. The metal bar is very fine and it runs along the front teeth, while the spring is located behind the teeth. The aligner simply sits on top of the teeth and the forces generated by the two key parts move the teeth. These gentle forces push and pull, squeezing the teeth and causing them to move in the desired direction.

The Inman Aligner is not invisible like Invisalign or Clearstep aligners; however, all that can be seen is the fine metal bar and treatment is so quick that it will be over before you know it.

The average treatment time for the Inman Aligner is just 16 weeks.

Who is an ideal candidate for the Inman Aligner?

This treatment is ideally suited to patients who need minor correction and it is a great choice for those with slightly crooked front teeth, mild crowding or a small diastema (gap between the front teeth). We also recommend the Inman Aligner as a treatment for relapse, which occurs when the teeth start to move after treatment.
