Tooth and gum disease effectively defeated thanks to Central Leeds dentists

So many of the activities that you take for granted and probably don’t even think about doing rely on you having a healthy mouth with good teeth and gums. Yet you face a daily battle to make sure that they are all in great working order. Getting into a regular routine is the key to achieving this, as is understanding how and why problems can occur.
The main enemy of good oral health is the acidic substance known as plaque. Every time you eat and drink, plaque is formed on the surfaces inside your mouth. Sugary and starchy foods are the main culprits here but substances such as fruit and fruit juice also produce high levels of plaque. The actual production of plaque cannot be avoided but you can do your best to make sure that you are removing as much of it as is humanly possible.
Brushing and flossing is the best way of doing this. Not removing plaque allows it to compromise the integrity of teeth by breaking through the enamel and producing small holes which will need to be filled before the tooth loses functionality. Gums become inflamed and diseased if they are exposed to extended contact with plaque. This can ultimately lead to tooth loss as the gums are unable to hold teeth in place anymore.
Your Central Leeds dentist is an expert in these aspects of your oral health and so it is very much worth going to see him or her on a regular basis so that your mouth can be effectively monitored. You only get one set of healthy teeth so it is a very good idea to look after them as well as you can.
