Roll Back the Years With Brilliant Botox

August 7th, 2015

2977218_blogMany of us admit to wanting younger, softer and smoother skin, so it’s no surprise Botox has grown in popularity the last decade. Botox is a non-surgical treatment that helps banish the signs of ageing. The results are temporary, but you can choose to continue treatment and prolong the effects.

What exactly is Botox and how does it work?

Botox is an anti-ageing treatment that reduces the visibility of lines and wrinkles. Botox is a purified form of botulinum toxin type A. It is injected into certain areas of the skin using a fine needle. Botox softens wrinkles by relaxing the facial muscles. It does this by preventing the transmission of nerve signals to the muscles.

Botox treatment is a popular alternative to cosmetic surgery. The process is simpler and quicker and you can enjoy the results just days later. There’s no need to factor in recovery time with Botox, as you can return to your daily routine straight after treatment.

Botox is used to address lines on the forehead, around the eyes and between the nose and mouth.

What does treatment involve?

Botox treatment is straightforward and usually only takes around 15-30 minutes. Before treatment, you will have a consultation where we explain exactly what happens, how treatment works and what you can expect afterwards. We will also chat to you about the areas you want to treat. During the procedure we use a fine needle to carefully inject the Botox into the skin. The effects of treatment will become noticeable around 24-48 hours afterwards and should last 3-6 months.

Amazing CEREC Treatment

August 6th, 2015

4207449_blogIf you’re looking for an amazing treatment in the centre of Leeds, look no further than CEREC. CEREC technology has revolutionised restorative dentistry, giving us the opportunity to offer our clients same day bespoke treatment.

What is CEREC and what’s so good about it?

CEREC is a form of CAD/CAM technology that enables us to create and fit new restorations such as veneers, inlays, onlays and crowns in one day. Usually, the treatment process for new restorations takes around two weeks as the restorations are made in a dental laboratory by skilled technicians. With CEREC, we can create the new restorations on site.

CEREC treatment involves three key stages. The first stage is to design the restoration using advanced imaging software. We take photographs of the teeth and use the software to convert them into 3D images. Theses images act as templates. The second stage is the manufacturing process, which occurs when the images are sent to the milling machine. This machine works quickly to turn visual templates into tangible new restorations. The final stage is to fit the new restoration.

CEREC offers us many advantages, including:

  • Vastly reduced treatment times (from two weeks to just one day!)
  • No need for temporary restorations
  • Increased accuracy
  • No need to make putty moulds, which can be uncomfortable for those with a sensitive gag reflex
  • Versatility – we can use CEREC to create a range of restorations, such as veneers, crowns, inlays and onlays

If you would like to find out more about the amazing benefits of CEREC treatment, don’t hesitate to call us.

How is a Sonicare Toothbrush Different to Any Other?

August 5th, 2015

iStock_000006052729XSmallWhen it comes to toothbrushes, it can be impossible to narrow down the hundreds of choices in pursuit of the perfect brush. If you’re looking for inspiration or want to replace your current brush, we recommend the Philips Sonicare Range.

What’s so good about Sonicare?

The development of Sonicare brushes is based on many years of research. These brushes offer exceptional levels of cleaning power. The range is proven to remove plaque and provide your teeth with a deep clean and polish that leaves them feeling smooth and looking sparkly.

Sonicare offers a range of products catering for all budgets. All the brushes offer a host of impressive features as standard. If you’re after a brush that does everything, you can pay a little more for all the mod cons such as smart technology, varied brushing modes and a timer.

Brushing tips

The beauty of Sonicare brushes is that they do all the work for you. All you need to do is hold the brush handle and gently guide the head around your teeth. Take care to angle the brush head to cover the gum line and individual surface of each tooth. There’s no need to put any extra effort into brushing as the brush oscillates quickly, producing a thorough clean.

We recommend brushing for at least two minutes in the morning and again in the evening. Some brushes come with an in-built timer, but you could set an alarm on your watch or phone to make sure you brush for long enough. We also recommend using fluoride toothpaste.

For advice about buying a Sonicare toothbrush, don’t hesitate to give us a call or pop in if you’re in Leeds.

How Do We Repair Chips and Gaps in the Teeth?

August 4th, 2015

2904346_blogEven the strongest and healthiest teeth can become damaged as a result of accidents and sports injuries. But rest assured – our job is to restore and repair broken or chipped teeth and enhance your smile’s natural beauty with minimal discomfort. If you’re looking for a simple and affordable solution for damaged teeth or have gaps in your smile you’d like to close, we can help.

What is cosmetic bonding?

Cosmetic bonding is an effective procedure with incredible aesthetic benefits for your smile. Also known as composite bonding, this procedure uses dental composite to carry out minor alterations and repair work to the teeth. Bonding targets uneven and misshapen teeth, gaps between the teeth, chips and worn surfaces. Using dental composite, your dentist will reshape individual teeth, build up uneven or worn edges and reduce the size of spaces between the teeth. Changes to each tooth may be minor, but the results are incredible.

The procedure involves skill, precision and creative flair. Your dentist will use their expertise to shape the composite, carry out the relevant repair work and produce amazing aesthetic changes. They will choose the shade of composite that matches your tooth shade. Once the putty-like composite is in place, your dentist will harden it using a curing light. This only takes a minute and doesn’t cause any discomfort.

The benefits of bonding

Bonding doesn’t just create beautiful smiles, it also boosts confidence and makes you feel more attractive without any injections or drilling. Treatment takes just an hour and we can do it all in one session. You’ll be able to enjoy the benefits straight away and bonding is a much cheaper option than veneers or orthodontic braces. To find out more, pick up the phone and give us a call.

Stunning Smiles in Just One Visit

August 2nd, 2015

3177025_blogIt’s understandable to assume that it takes time to transform a smile, but our team can create amazing new smiles in just one visit. One of our most impressive services is a life-changing same day teeth treatment known as All-on-4.

What is All-on-4?

All-on-4 treatment is designed to offer rapid results for patients with entire arches of missing teeth. Usually, implant treatment takes several months, but with this system you can enjoy a brand new smile in just one day.

All-on-4 is different to traditional implant treatment because it uses just four implants to secure a full arch of prosthetic teeth. The alternative implant procedure requires between 6 and 10 implants. This treatment uses fewer implants because we place the implants so they take full advantage of the jaw’s densest bone tissue. Two implants sit at the front of the mouth, whilst the other two sit at the back. We place traditional implants at 90 degree angles, but the back All-on-4 implants sit at 45 degree angles for maximum anchorage.

Who is the ideal candidate for All-on-4 treatment?

All-on-4 is suitable for patients with large numbers of missing teeth who are looking for a swift alternative to traditional implants. We also recommend the treatment as a secure and functional alternative to dentures.  All-on-4 resolves problems often raised by denture wearers. You can eat and smile with greater confidence and there’s no risk of irritation or the teeth slipping out of position.

To find out if All-on-4 if you’re a suitable candidate for All-on-4, call today to book a consultation. Our expert dentists will carry out the relevant tests and talk you through the procedure and highlight how it could benefit you.

5 Top Tips for Tooth Brushing

July 31st, 2015

iStock_000006052729XSmallEffective brushing makes a huge difference when it comes to our oral health. Here are five top tips to help you maximise the benefits of your daily brushing routine.

  1. Use an electric toothbrush

Electric toothbrushes have been proven to remove plaque more effectively than manual brushes. This is because the brush head rotates at high speed and covers a lot of ground. You don’t need to pay a lot of money for a decent electric toothbrush and even the most basic models will provide you with an excellent clean.

  1. Don’t brush too hard

It’s understandable to believe that the harder you brush, the cleaner your teeth will be. In reality, brushing too firmly can cause damage to the enamel so it’s more beneficial to go gently. Guide the brush head around the teeth and softly clean along the gum line. If you use an electric toothbrush your brush will do most of the work for you!

  1. Use fluoride toothpaste

Fluoride helps to strengthen the enamel and protect your teeth from decay and acid erosion. Follow the guidelines on your toothpaste tube for details regarding quantities and advice for children.

  1. Try inter-dental brushes

Inter-dental brushes are small brushes designed to target the cracks between the teeth, which we can’t reach with a standard toothbrush. For more information about inter-dental brushes and flossing, ask our friendly hygiene team!

  1. Set a timer

Mornings can be stressful and we often neglect our teeth during the mad rush. It’s important to take just two minutes each morning and evening to get a thorough clean, so why not set a timer on your phone or brush along to your favourite song?

How to Get a More Elegant Smile

July 29th, 2015

4244118_blogIf you’re eager to channel the Duchess of Cambridge this summer, we can recommend a host of treatments to give you a stunning, elegant smile. In recent years, the ultra-bright Hollywood style smile has given way to a more subtle, natural and understated look in the popularity charts and we have the perfect treatments to recreate this look.

Cosmetic treatments for an elegant smile

We have an extensive collection of cosmetic treatments on offer, which are capable of creating beautifully natural smiles as well as a more glamorous look. The beauty of cosmetic treatment is its versatility and we can tailor every treatment plan to suit the individual. Some clients come to us looking for all-out A-list glamour, while others are desperate to achieve that radiant, natural look.

Our treatment options include tooth whitening, porcelain crowns, white fillings, cosmetic braces, composite bonding and veneers.

Teeth whitening

We offer both home whitening and Enlighten professional treatment, both of which produce incredible results without any hassle. The results of whitening treatment should last for many months, even years in the case of Enlighten.

Porcelain crowns

Porcelain crowns are used to strengthen and stabilise damaged and decayed teeth with minimal impact on the aesthetic of the smile. They are placed over the top of the tooth and they help to reduce the risk of further injury and infection. Crowns should last up to five years.

White fillings

White fillings are an aesthetically pleasing alternative to mercury amalgam fillings. They are used to treat cavities and help to protect the tooth and improve its function. We offer new fillings and replacement white fillings for old metal fillings.

Cosmetic braces

Cosmetic braces are discreet, aesthetically pleasing orthodontic solutions that remedy issues such as crowding and gaps between the teeth with minimal hassle. Examples include the Inman Aligner, Six Month Smiles and STb Social 6 lingual braces.

Composite bonding

Composite bonding is an excellent solution for chipped and worn edges, gaps between the teeth and misshapen teeth. Treatment takes just an hour and it is very simple. Your dentist will craft and mould the putty-like composite into shape to carry out the relevant repairs and then set the composite to make it hard.

Veneers

Veneers are often associated with incredibly glamorous smiles, but they can also be used to create a much more understated aesthetic. Veneers are very thin sheets of ceramic shaped to fit onto your natural teeth. They create flawless, beautiful smiles.

What Happens When You Replace Missing Teeth

July 28th, 2015

2433646_sMissing teeth can be troublesome for a number of reasons and we strongly recommend considering tooth replacement treatment if you have gaps in your smile. We offer a range of options and will be happy to discuss potential solutions during your consultation. Here are just some of the reasons you should think about replacing missing teeth:

Better oral health

Losing teeth can have a negative impact on your oral health because sockets tend to attract bacteria and the remaining teeth can be harder to clean. By replacing missing teeth, you can enjoy healthier teeth and gums.

Improved speech

Your teeth play an essential role in the formation of words and sounds and losing teeth can affect the clarity of your speech and your ability to pronounce certain sounds. Investing in tooth replacement treatment can help to improve the quality of your speech, which will also have benefits for your confidence, especially in settings where you are required to speak in public or meet people face to face.

Improved aesthetics

Missing teeth impact the look of the smile. Studies show that people who have missing teeth are considered to be less attractive than those with a full set of healthy teeth. If you’re unhappy with the look of your smile, this can also have a negative effect on confidence, as you may feel self-conscious when your smile is on show and you may feel less attractive. Replacing lost teeth with natural-looking prostheses can really make a difference to the way you look and feel.

Improved facial aesthetics

Your teeth act as supports for your lips and cheeks and if you lose a significant number of teeth, this can cause the cheeks to sag and this makes your face look older. Tooth replacement not only gives you a stunning smile, it also rejuvenates your facial aesthetic, helping you to look and feel younger.

Sensational CEREC is the Way Forward

July 26th, 2015

429735_blogCEREC is a revolutionary form of modern dental technology that enables us to offer same-day bespoke restorative treatment right here in the heart of Leeds. With CEREC technology, lengthy waits for new crowns and veneers are a thing of the past. You can now enjoy fantastic results instantly!

About CEREC

CEREC technology has changed the face of restorative dentistry and we are proud to offer same-day restorative treatment in the centre of Leeds. If you thought you had to wait weeks for a new crown, think again!

Usually, when you need a new veneer or crown, we create putty impressions and send them away to a laboratory to be handled by skilled dental technicians. The finished restoration is returned to us after two weeks and then fitted. With CEREC, we can design, create and fit brand new custom-designed restorations in a single day, vastly reducing treatment time and ensuring that you can enjoy the benefits of treatment immediately.

The first stage of CEREC treatment is the design phase. We use a camera to take images of your teeth, which are converted into 3D models by advanced computer software. These images are then sent over to the milling machine and the manufacturing process takes place. In just a few minutes, the new restorations will be ready and your dentist can fit them.

The advantages of CEREC

CEREC offers a wealth of benefits for dentists and patients, including:

  • reduced treatment time and instant results
  • increased convenience – you only need to arrange a single treatment session, rather than multiple appointments
  • elimination of temporary restorations
  • greater accuracy
  • more control for dentists
  • no need for putty impressions (this is particularly advantageous for those with a sensitive gag reflex)

If you would like to find out more about CEREC and see if it could benefit you, call today and arrange a consultation!
