Classy CEREC comes to Leeds

Wednesday, November 7th, 2012

When it comes to the dawning of a new age of technology in dentistry, nothing sums it up better than CEREC. It’s a fanciful treatment that can get you up and running again in no time, setting you up with a new crown, veneers or even a dental bridge and for the busy people of Leeds that truly is a blessing. The computer is at the core of this trickery, as well as some pretty dandy machinery. New fittings before were hampered by the fact of time, because they had to be sent off to the lab to be made- they were just as good, but no good if you wanted the work done immediately. With CEREC, you sit down and your mouth is subjected to digital imaging that will then feed the pictures of the area that requires fixing into a computer. The computer then works out all the dimensions of your new fitting and feeds them straight into a milling machine which makes the part you need there and then whilst the dentist gets you ready. Once made, the fitting is cemented into place: if any problems arise, the issues can be rectified in-house and if need be, the fitting re-made. The overall treatment takes about an hour to complete and is as competitive price wise as having the work done the old fashioned way….dentistry is truly keeping up with the demands of its patients.

Technology with Cad/Cams in Dentistry in Central Leeds

Monday, June 18th, 2012

Ah, the age of computers eh and where would we be without them? Especially the world of dentistry as so many treatments rely on their use, which for the patients of central Leeds means excellent news, because this technology has speeded up the treatments we have no-end, especially cosmetic ones. The perfect example of this is CAD/CAM technology- computer aided design and manufacture. If ever you have had veneers, a bridge or a crown made, the fitting is perfectly fine but can often take a couple of weeks to manufacture and that can be awkward if you are a busy person, but with CAD/CAM, you can be done in the hour. When you sit into the chair, a series of digital images will be taken and fed into the computer that then designs your fitting. This information is then transferred in to a milling machine that makes your fitting while you are being readied by the dentist. This takes around 20 minutes before the dentist fits you a new tooth. Even better about this, is if something is not quite right, it can be corrected in-house. Today’s world is all about time and those cunning dental engineers in their laboratories certainly know how to come up with ways of saving it!

Cad/Cam and Your Dentist in Central Leeds

Monday, May 21st, 2012

Computer aided design, computer aided manufacturing…..bit of a mouthful and probably for most people in central Leeds, you wouldn’t have a clue what it is. But for a dentist, it is one of the most innovative technologies ever to hit the dental surgery and for the patient, well, how do you fancy getting some cosmetic/restorative work done within the hour? That’s the beauty about this technology, everything is in-house, even the manufacture of your fitting, so you no longer have to wait a couple of weeks for your bits to be sourced at a lab miles away, the fitting is made whilst you wait. Let’s just say you want a veneer; you turn up at the dentist and have your tooth prepared, your mouth is then scanned and the information is fed into a computer that then designs your fitting. Following onto this, this design is then fed into a milling machine which then manufactures your fitting from a small block made from either ceramic, composite resin, porcelain or zirconium. Once complete, the veneer can be cemented into place and if there are any problems, they can be corrected there and then. This technology can be used for lots of other restorative work as well from dental crowns and crown-lays to bridges, implant restorations and some orthodontic appliances. For the person in a hurry, this is definitely the one for you!

Digital x-rays improve the service for dental patients, say dentists in the City of Leeds

Friday, August 12th, 2011

The days of lengthy, repeated visits to the dental surgery for some procedures are over. New technology is revolutionising the way that United Kingdom dentists can carry out their work and patients are feeling the benefits. It means that you need not take much time off work if you want to have some work done at the dental surgery. Find out how this is possible.
In quite a few dental procedures, it is necessary to have x-rays taken of your mouth. This is so that dentists can get a better view of what it is that they are working on. But the traditional x-ray proved to be problematic in several senses and scientists have now developed a better way to take x-rays.
The traditional x-ray only yielded images in two dimensions, meaning that they are flat, like a picture. Of course the real world exists in three dimensions so dentists would frequently have to take repeated x-rays in order to gain a fuller picture of what they are attempting to capture. This meant that the whole process was rather time consuming and patients would sometimes have to return to the dentist. What’s more, every x-ray had to be sent to a specialist lab for development before it could be used by the dentist.
Digital x-rays produce three dimensional data, allowing dentists to navigate the image on a computer screen from every angle. There is no longer any need to take repeated images and have them develop in a lab.
If you are thinking of having some work done at your dental surgery in the City of Leeds, ask your dentist how digital x-rays might speed up the process.

City of Leeds dentists delighted to tell patients that treatments are speeded up with CEREC techniques

Monday, July 18th, 2011

The technological revolution that swept the world in the twentieth century and meant that man walked on the moon and allowed aeroplane travel to become widespread, not to mention the internet, has affected dentistry too. Treatment times have sped up and become altogether more efficient thanks to the technology that is now available in many dental surgeries up and down the United Kingdom.
Under the collective name of CEREC is a whole range of techniques which permit dentists to carry out some of their stock treatments quickly and more effectively. Examples of this include the manufacturing and fitting of porcelain dental veneers and porcelain dental crowns. A dentist using CEREC technology will take a three dimensional, digital x-ray of your mouth and send the data to an online milling machine. The porcelain veneer or crown will then be crafted in the surgery in little over five minutes.
This contrasts sharply with previous practices which required dentists to take x-rays which would then have to be sent off to a lab to be developed before any further action could be taken. The lab fees would increase the cost of the treatment and patients would have to wait longer too. With the use of CEREC techniques and technology you won’t have to take long afternoons or mornings off work to go to the dentist and then have to do it all over again in a week or so. Employers will find this to be excellent news!
Ask your City of Leeds dentist if they are using CEREC techniques. It might just persuade you that you do have time for that vital work on your teeth that you’ve been putting off because of your busy schedule.
