Overcoming your Dental Anxieties in Central Leeds

Monday, January 21st, 2013

If you have reservations every time you pay a visit to your dentist in centralLeeds, you feel uncomfortable and get the sweats- it could be that you are suffering from dental anxiety. Though you will turn up each time, which is admirable considering you need to for your oral health, it doesn’t make the visit smooth and comfortable for you. But there is a simple way to help ease your session; you can talk to your dentist beforehand and express your anxieties. By doing this, you have already started to purge yourself and are getting things off your chest, which will make you feel a whole lot better. It will also give your dentist an idea of how to treat you- something that they may not have been aware of before. Now, by you putting your case forward, your dentist can treat you a lot better than ever before. Your dentist can offer you better sedatives, they can employ aromatherapy to put you at ease and make you feel more relaxed and they can give you the power to stop the treatment at any point it becomes uncomfortable for you. If you have the power to have the say in what happens, the anxiety will disappear into the dark and distant past and your dental visits will become something to look forward to, as opposed to being something to be concerned about.

Dishing out the Dentures in the City of Leeds

Sunday, January 20th, 2013

When something has suffered a lot of bad press over the years, it can be difficult to convince people otherwise. Dentures have been wrung through this mangle and have taken a lot of flack over the years. But for all their faults of being ill fitting and essentially looking, well fake, dentures help to retain the shape of your face and control the bite of your mouth. So then, we get right up to date and things have changed awfully for people about to embark on a life of dentures in the city ofLeeds. The materials that dentures are made from now are softer and more subtle, and stick to the mouth better. Cements have improved, but it is the fact that dentures are now used with dental implants that offer the wearer a freedom never heard of before. But aside from the idea of full dentures, the treatment of gum and periodontal disease has seen a rise in teeth being saved and kept in the mouth, which in turn has seen a rise in people wearing partial dentures, which are so much cheaper than a dental implant or bridge. So, before you write off dentures altogether, you should do some research first and find out exactly what is out there on offer.

Making Dental veneers your choice in Leeds

Saturday, January 19th, 2013

Dental veneers have been around for decades now in Leeds, but it is this longevity that rather sums up just how good they are, and the good work that they do. They do a job and that job is to restore the fine smile to the mouth again, whilst covering up an incredible amount of sins that no other treatment can do. Ageing is always going to happen to us all and things will always start to go wrong, but it doesn’t mean to say that you have to just lie down and accept the fact. Your teeth may become jaded as time goes on; gaps may start to appear, you gums may recede and your teeth may start to look worn out, but a dental veneer will always be there to cover up these problems. Your teeth need to be prepared by first removing the original enamel of the teeth so that casts can be made, from which the veneers are made. And once they are finished, your dentist can then cement them into place. But it is just as well you will still be sitting down in the dentists chair when you are presented with a mirror for the first time- the change in your smile will be breathtaking!

Dark Dental Phobias in the City of Leeds

Thursday, January 17th, 2013

One of the greatest challenges to a dentist in the city of Leeds is to handle a patient who suffers from dental phobia, that’s of course if the phobia allows the patient to get to the surgery in the first place. A phobia thrives on a vulnerable mind, can spread like a cancer and get out of hand very quickly. Getting to the root of this phobia takes a lot of patience from both dentist and patient alike, but it needs to be addressed as soon as it can, because as a patient, you are denying yourself the help you need to ensure that you have a healthy oral life, and if things worsen, the bigger the hurdle it is to overcome. This phobia can also spread and prevent you from doing other things as well in your life. Dentists are very understanding of the condition and so they should be the first people you talk to and keep talking to. Pay money just to talk to them for as many sessions as it takes until you start to expose what it is that has started your phobia off. Then, it is time for the dentist to show you that modern dentistry is not like it used to be; treatments have got better, more refined and a lot less painful than they used to be thanks to some amazing advances in technology. Then it’s over to you to start telling your dentist how you would like you treatments to unfold. You tell them what you would like done and by this process, you will take control of your dental destiny and become a lot less concerned in the future.

You, Fluoride and Leeds

Wednesday, January 16th, 2013

Fluoride is one of those minerals that’s considered to be the saving grace for your teeth and is able stave off tooth decay in Leeds. A lot of this is true; fluoride is considered to be very good for giving strength to the enamel in teeth and helps in the eternal fight against tooth decay. You can also find it everywhere; the water systems are full of fluoride and you’ll find it in most toothpastes that you buy in shops around the city, so it must be good for you if it is so widespread? However, it has also become one of those things that have started to become questioned throughout dental circles. Though it has been used for almost a hundred years, it is only recently, through modern technology and a better understanding of things, that it is also considered to be quite damaging as well. It is a toxic mineral and too much use of it can be very dangerous. Children tend to swallow more toothpaste than need be and this can result in death. Fluoride also builds up in the bloodstream and in the brain, and this can lead to a condition called fluorosis- disturbing considering that it plays a major part in our live. However, this also seems like someone somewhere is starting to hit the ‘PC button’ again. We live on average to an age of 80 something. If it was proven that the removal of fluoride from our lives could double our longevity, then there may well be a cause for banning it; but it doesn’t. We are all free to make informed choices, but it is also good to be practical as well.

Taking the fight to Bad teeth in Central Leeds

Tuesday, January 15th, 2013

It seems quite bizarre that people in central Leeds still allow their teeth to fall into a state of decay in a world where modern dentistry has all of the tools to prevent it. But of course, that does depend on whether or not you go and see your dentist at all; some people only go when something goes wrong and they are in pain. To sum up bad teeth can take many different angles; tooth decay is a good example of bad teeth, where ignorance and bad hygiene have allowed decay to eat into the teeth, which actually could result in tooth loss. The teeth can also start to look bad because of this; poor oral hygiene can also lead to discolouration in the enamel of the teeth. If you blunder through all of this without brushing and cleaning your teeth and fail to get checked up regularly with your dentist, you will lose all of your teeth by the time you reach 40, which is a shame. All it takes is a few sessions with your dentist and your teeth will be cared for, problems rectified and your oral health will be back on track. You’ll also need to change your bad habits into good ones and learn how to maintain a good level of oral hygiene each day. It isn’t hard, it could save your teeth, and you will be saving a fortune on dental bills.

Bad boy Bruxism hits the City of Leeds

Monday, January 14th, 2013

The teeth and gums are a constant source of problems throughout your early life in the city ofLeeds, but you’d like to think that once you have entered adulthood, most of the problems are behind you….if only. Adulthood offers new challenges to your mouth to overcome, although a lot of them creep up on you without you realizing it. One particularly nasty condition that sneaks in through the back door is bruxism, or teeth grinding, and this is very destructive indeed. This is a direct result of the stresses and anger that build up in you during the day and you won’t notice it at first, but you will start to grind your teeth; maybe you can control it during the day, but unless you learn how to unwind and relax when you get home, you’ll be grinding away whilst you sleep. You’ll need to have some form of therapy to stop it, but stop it you must. Over time, constant grinding will do untold damage to your teeth- this can be halted with a gum-shield, but it won’t stop the process of grinding. Your jaws with become damaged, as may your hearing; you may suffer from terrible head aches, and you could do awful damage to you neck, possibly your central nervous system too, and you will suffer from upper back problems too. If you go to your dentist regularly, signs of teeth grinding will be picked up on immediately and if that’s the case, then you should seek professional therapy to stop it from going any further.

Handling your Kid’s teeth in Leeds

Sunday, January 13th, 2013

By the time your kids have left the nest, you will have probably had enough and a little fed up with having to looking after them (until they walk out the door- of course you’ll miss them!). But you can at least rest easy that you have given them the best start in life by bringing them up healthy, and that goes for their oral health too, because you would have seen them go through some radical changes over the years. The moment you brought them into the world in Leeds, their teeth were always going to be something to keep on top of. The first hurdle would have been to nurse them through teething. After that, it would have been secondary teeth, by which time you’d have found them a good dentist and taught them how to brush their teeth properly. Then just when you thought you could relax, they might well have required some orthodontic treatment to get their teeth straightened. And who knows, maybe you didn’t have the heart to get rid of them until you were sure they got through the wisdom teeth period as well. All this requires dedication to your children, planning and money, so you must have loved them, and they you, otherwise, they wouldn’t have flowered into beautiful adults and still keep coming round for Sunday dinner!

Handling a Dry Socket in Central Leeds

Saturday, January 12th, 2013

With any treatment of an intricate nature that is performed on your teeth in central Leeds, there will be a cooling off period afterwards where you may suffer from a little discomfort until you start to heal. Tooth extraction is such a treatment that reflects this; the pulling of the roots from their socket leaves a hole and this is left to heal naturally. During this healing, the area needs to be left alone for a few days so that a blood clot can form in the hole, after which, it will fall out once the wound has healed over. However, if the clot is removed prematurely because you have been smoking, brushed it or eaten on it, then the wound will be left open and the jawbone will be exposed to the air, and you will be in danger of suffering from a dry socket. This will cause excruciating pain whilst also being vulnerable to infection. You must get attention immediately from your dentist to get the healing process back on track; the wound will need dressing daily and packed with a healing paste. It could take a while until the problem starts to right itself, but having a dry socket is as potentially dangerous as other major issues that crop up in the mouth and needs to be approached accordingly.
