Invisible Braces, Showstopping Results!

December 16th, 2015

header_image4If you dream of a showstopping smile, Invisalign could be the perfect treatment for you! This invisible brace system produces stunning results with the magical bonus that nobody will even know that you’ve been having treatment. If you’ve been searching for a brace that affords you the opportunity to remain incognito during treatment and provides a beautiful smile at the end of the process, look no further!

About Invisalign

Invisalign is an aligner system that uses a sequence of custom-made plastic aligners to re-position and align the teeth. Invisalign aligners are made from clear plastic and slide onto your teeth. Once they are sat in place, it is virtually impossible for other people to detect them.

Invisalign works differently to traditional braces and uses multiple appliances, rather than a single orthodontic device. Each aligner is worn for 2 weeks and the sequence follows until treatment is complete.

As well as offering virtual invisibility, Invisalign also offers patients:

  • comfort: the aligners generate gentle forces and there are no metal parts
  • convenience: Invisalign aligners are removable, so they fit into your normal day to day life very easily. You won’t have to adapt the way you eat, the foods you buy or the way you clean your teeth
  • improved oral health: braces can be notoriously hard to clean, but with Invisalign, there is no added risk of decay as you remove your aligners to brush your teeth
  • confidence: many people worry about having braces because they think they look unattractive or affect the way other people view them. With Invisalign, you can go through the process without any worries at all about what you look like or how you come across to other people

If you think Invisalign sounds like the perfect match for you, why not call us today and book a consultation? Our friendly dentists will explain the ins and outs of orthodontic treatment, go through the pros and cons of Invisalign treatment and carry out some tests to check whether or not you are a good candidate for this system. If Invisalign is not a good match, we will be happy to explore other, more suitable, options.

Get Your Smile Back for the New Year with Dental Implants

December 16th, 2015

2433646_sThe best way to start a New Year is with a beaming, bright smile on your face and with our dental implants, we can ensure you start 2016 in style. Dental implants are designed to replace the root section of a missing tooth. Implants are a long-term solution for tooth loss and are a viable option for most patients with missing teeth.

Everything you need to know about dental implants

Dental implants are rods made from titanium. They are implanted into the jawbone to take on the role of the missing tooth root. Titanium is used because it is a bio-compatible material. This enables the implant to fuse into the actual bone tissue, providing optimum stability for the new tooth. The process of osseointegration can take up to 8 months and once this is complete, the head of the implant is attached to a dental bridge, crown or denture and the crown section, the visible part of the tooth, is replaced.

Implant treatment is suited to many people with missing teeth. As implants are compatible with a range of different types of restoration, they can be used to replace a single lost tooth or multiple teeth.

How could implants benefit me?

There are countless benefits of replacing missing teeth, from improved oral health and clearer speech, to improved ability to eat and the obvious aesthetic benefits of a healthy looking, beautiful smile. Implants are a long-term solution and represent a long-term investment.

With implants, you will feel and look like you have your natural teeth back and you can enjoy greater confidence when you smile, speak or eat in public.

If you like the sound of implant treatment and would like to find out more about this incredible innovation in Leeds, call us now!

See Your Teeth Sparkle This Season With Sensational Teeth Whitening

December 4th, 2015

3884462_blogIf you dream of sparkly white teeth this Christmas, you’ve come to the right place! At City Dental Leeds, we offer amazing home whitening treatment, which will guarantee a gorgeous smile for the festive season.

Home whitening couldn’t be simpler and we also include a scale and polish session with our experienced hygienists.

What does treatment involve?

Home whitening treatment is very simple and it’s really convenient, so you won’t have to worry about fitting it into your busy social schedule in the run up to Christmas Day. Before you start treatment, we invite you to come in for an informal consultation. We will check your teeth and gums and then create moulds to be used to make your bespoke whitening trays. When your trays are ready, you can take them home and start your treatment. The trays are similar to mouth guards and contain whitening agent. This lightens the shade of your enamel when it comes into contact with the teeth, giving you a lighter, brighter smile.

You will probably notice a difference after just a couple of days, but for the best results, we recommend 2 weeks of treatment. This involves wearing your trays for around 6 hours per day and you can choose when to wear them.

After treatment, you can expect your teeth to look noticeably whiter and the results should last for some time. You can also have top-up treatment to give your teeth a little boost further down the line if you wish to.

Is teeth whitening safe?

If you read the news, you may have noticed a lot of stories about teeth whitening of late. The truth is that whitening is a very safe and effective procedure when carried out under the supervision of a trained dentist. Dentists have expertise in treating patients and they also use carefully selected whitening products. There is a very low risk of increased sensitivity, but otherwise you shouldn’t notice any difference, apart from the whiteness of your teeth! If you have concerns about the risks, don’t hesitate to ask your dentist. They will be happy to answer any questions and put your mind at ease.

How Braces Have Become More Comfortable and Discreet

November 26th, 2015

2445507_blogWhen you ask people about braces the same image pops into most heads: the bulky, metal ‘train-track’ braces that everyone used to have at school.

New types of brace

Fixed metal braces do still exist but the world of orthodontics has advanced at a rapid rate and new, innovative treatments are coming onto the market all the time. Times have changed so much that you can now choose between incredible treatments that work in weeks and invisible braces that nobody else can even see. Braces are now so discreet and comfortable that they have almost become a trend in themselves. Numerous celebrities have been snapped sporting examples of the new range of treatments, which include lingual braces, Invisalign and Clearstep and even the dreaded train-tracks enjoyed something of a revival after the television character Ugly Betty unknowingly made them cool!

Comfort as well as style

Braces used to be associated with pain. Everyone used to dread going to have their braces tightened because it would hurt and the thought of a seemingly never-ending series of trips to the orthodontist was never very appealing. However, discomfort is now becoming a thing of the past and many of the new braces have been specially designed to move the teeth quickly and comfortably. Most of the braces and orthodontic devices now are much lighter than traditional braces and they use state of the art technology to guide the teeth into the right position. Many have also banished the dreaded bands and therefore there is no need for tightening appointments.

The Top Choices for Adult Braces

November 24th, 2015

header_image4Times have moved on from the days when only children wore braces, which by the way, were likely to be made of metal and highly noticeable. Today’s modern braces are much more discreet and for the most part, can be used by patients of all ages.

As well as being clear, many braces are now removable, meaning greater flexibility and better oral hygiene. Picking from the multitude of braces and aligners on offer can be confusing, so here is a quick look at two of the most popular choices.

Invisalign

Invisalign uses clear aligners which gradually move your teeth into the desired position, without anyone noticing that you are wearing braces. The removable aligner is worn for 22 hours a day and an average of between 20 and 30 separate aligners or trays are used throughout the treatment.

Inman Aligner

The Inman Aligner is of the range of removable orthodontic appliances that have become a hit with many patients who are seeking comfortable and discreet methods of having their teeth straightened. It is an appliance whereby competing forces between a bar on one side of the teeth and a spring on the other work to move teeth into position. It is a very effective means of straightening teeth and one City of Leeds dentists are happy to offer patients.

Dental Implants Support for Patients in Leeds

November 20th, 2015

2433646_sA dental implant is a root device (a metal rod typically made from titanium), that a specialised built in screw equipped to hold a false tooth or teeth in place. Once the jawbone has fused with the inserted implant, a crown, denture or bridge can be attached onto the screw. Like natural teeth, dental implants can help stimulate bone growth. Dental implants are particularly helpful in this case, as when a tooth is lost the resulting jaw bone loss can be a major problem.

Problems with missing teeth

As the jaw bone continues to shrink, dentures will be less likely to fit and the entire structure of the mouth can be irreversibly compromised. This results in very minimal support for removable dentures or crowns and can lead to other problems related to poorly fitted dentures.

How do dental implants work?

As mentioned before, dental implants are comprised of a titanium rod and it’s this titanium which makes an implant so well suited for helping growth. Titanium is the most bio-compatible metals of them all; not only is it strong and flexible, it has also been found to encourage bone growth and enhance the bone regeneration around the dental implant, preventing a valuable loss of bone structure.

However, different factors can affect the implant’s success in achieving bone growth. The bone density in the place where the implant is being fitted will affect how successful bone growth is around the implant and is in fact one of the most important factors. Maintaining good oral health also is a major factor in how well the regenerating bones respond to the titanium so it’s important that you keep up with brushing your teeth.
